Oh, it is the mind of distraction and dullness. And others, whether it is inverted appearance and so on. Distraction and dullness and so on are also like that. And the special thing is that it is the special thing of habitual distraction and dullness and so on. Because following it is the reason for following. The meaning is that, how does consciousness become accustomed to objects in a way that conforms to or does not conform to the past, and in accordance with that habit, mental happiness and unhappiness arise for that object. If one is accustomed to distraction without interruption, then the happiness of extreme distraction arises, and if one is accustomed to dullness, then it is dull. For inversion, if one is accustomed to non-conformity to things that are accustomed to conformity, then in accordance with this, mental happiness or suffering arises. What was previously born will also be reversed. Therefore, just as consciousness follows the difference of the previous consciousness, so are mental happiness and so on. And the cause of making the difference is also called "conditioned phenomena." Therefore, conditioned phenomena, which are the nature of consciousness, are also established as the cause of both non-difference. Because the cause of making the difference itself is conditioned phenomena, therefore, the so-called "habit" does not refer to habituation. Because it is the nature of the immediate cause, it is the cause of consciousness. It is not because of its difference that consciousness becomes different. However, it is what establishes it, and because of the difference of the consciousness of habit, the later consciousness becomes different. Even if the difference is grasped in the same way, its habituation, which becomes the nature of the consciousness of the fruit, is said to be the cause of making the later consciousness different. Therefore, the one who makes the difference of the later differentiated consciousness by means of establishing habituation is the previous habitual consciousness. The immediate mind is also the cause of the nature of wisdom. And conditioned phenomena itself is considered to be the cause of following other previous differences, for example, a cloth that is watched and placed, and then dismantled and spread out, effortlessly returns to the way it was before.

Just as the continuity of the present state is caused by the combination of conditions, similarly, the cause of knowledge that conforms to the previous and subsequent is also considered to be combined. From the perspective of the immediate condition, it is the very nature of mind, not attachment to distraction. Therefore, the cause of distraction, whether direct or indirect, is considered to be the previous habituated consciousness. Therefore, habituation refers to the act of habituation, not the latent tendency. This reasoning proves that happiness and so on are the causes of combination that have become the nature of consciousness, and that combination is also the nature of consciousness. It is precisely because consciousness follows the distraction and weakness of habituation, etc., that it is said that the 'spa' that follows sensory pleasures, etc., is also the cause of combination of the nature of consciousness. For example, one may not have liked the taste of 'Maba' etc. before, but through habituation, it will later become the cause of sensory pleasure. Therefore, now it has been proven by a single cause that mind and senses are the very nature of mind, but the other party, in order to refute that the reason for the same nature is the same cause, has made an excessive statement. Because the cause of the characteristics of the collection is the same, because there is no difference. The difference between happiness and so on and suffering and so on is mutual, and if there is no such difference, there will be a fault. For example, if the eye and form, light and the object of attention are related and there is no difference, then why is knowledge sometimes the nature of happiness, sometimes the nature of suffering, and sometimes the nature contrary to both? This is just the meaning of asking a question, not happening simultaneously, because the contradictory immediate causes that can produce happiness and so on are the same, so they will not happen simultaneously. In the Pramāṇavārttika, it is said that contradictory immediate causes do not exist. Others explain this doubt in this way: there is no fault of non-difference, because the difference of happiness and so on is when it gathers in the collection of that collection itself, by undifferentiated matter...
