This is about the meaning of "earth." If someone doubts, even without an object, will happiness in the mind and so on arise? The answer is, the term "how the self" is used, and through the way of negation, it shows that special happiness and so on are themselves the fruit. What is the self-nature of something is "how the self." This is what is being said: For the special forms and so on, the happiness and so on that are separately determined, their objects are the self-nature that is the cause. For example, the object produced from hearing the sound of a lute is the sound of the lute. Therefore, the happiness and so on that are related to the object of how the self is, if the object of the self does not gather, it will not arise because it does not abide in a suitable object. Therefore, in this way, for happiness and so on that have been completely established as having special objects, through the way of negation, it is shown that they themselves are the fruit. For those who do not have sense faculties, there will also be no arising. The word "also" means accumulation. For forms and so on, the accompaniment related to things as fruit, those in which it exists are called "accompaniment." They are the cause of happiness and so on, that is, forms and so on, and the sense faculties that have these objects. They are both sense faculties and objects. Separated from them, that is, non-existent, because of non-existence. This is the reasoning that prevents the absence of sense faculties. It is both a sense faculty and without decay, it abides nearby, that is, it exists and manifests. If it does not manifest, even if one wants to see, the eye will not see form. Therefore, for manifestation, it also abides nearby. In this way, what was not seen before when there were no sense faculties is seen again later. Therefore, these two reasonings show that happiness and so on that depend on forms and so on arise following the accompaniment and negation of the eye. The word "accompaniment" can also be combined with the meaning of showing the cause of before and after, because it only shows negation. Or, the nature of the eye that has not seen, its knowledge cannot become other.

If someone doubts, if it is established in this way, then how should it be understood that happiness etc. will not arise without it? This is saying accompaniment. For example, just as eye consciousness is established as a cause different from object and attention, so also happiness etc. can be established as a cause. Because if happiness etc. exists, it exists; if it does not exist, it does not exist. Therefore, they are also the cause, and the eye is also the cause, both of which are pointed out. Which happiness etc. do not have attention when they arise? That is, it is not without attention. The two refer to object and sense faculty. The collection refers to the sense faculty being in a suitable object and the undamaged sense faculty manifesting. If the eye faculty of a sleeping person does not manifest, then the other faculties must be manifesting. There are also some people whose eyes are also manifesting, because some people fall asleep while the pupils of their eyes do not move and are still focused on the manifesting object. For these people, the two are also collected. Sleep is sleep. Those who are deluded by intoxication, fainting, etc., that is, are deluded, and whose minds have lost the ability to generate sense consciousness, for those who have such minds, there is no happiness etc. arising from the sense faculty. Therefore, it should be understood that happiness etc. are dependent on attention. Furthermore, for the happiness etc. arising from the sense faculty, the collection of causes that is spoken of is consciousness, that is, dependent on the sense faculty at that time. For its arising, the cause, that is, the collection that produces it, is only these, and the number of substances is only this much. Because here too, as before, there is accompaniment and reverse accompaniment. Because consciousness and happiness etc. do not have different causes, therefore, happiness etc. are not of the nature of being without an object. How is that formed? What is said is that self-nature, that is, the result related to the proximate cause, is its result. Its self-nature, that is, the distinction between object, time, and qualities being determined separately, is how it is formed. Without an object
