The object that is not understood by other consciousnesses, that thing itself is. Therefore, the previous valid cognition does not hold the grasped object. Otherwise, if it were to hold the grasped object, then at that time there would be an extreme consequence. Valid cognition is just this much, without completely determining, that is an extreme consequence. All consciousnesses that slightly go to an undistorted object become valid cognitions, therefore they become memory or other consciousnesses. Because of that reason, it is the object of non-apprehension itself. If the valid cognition with the fruit of certainty, the object that is ascertained by it is memory. If that which has become so is also valid cognition, then isn't that an extreme consequence? The mental consciousness engages with an object that is not ascertained by the eye consciousness, therefore, it is a valid cognition even though it is an object of what has already been cognized. If it is said that it is not an extreme consequence due to memory. It is said: For the ability to generate memory, the aspect of memory that arises from seeing, which is consistent with the generation of the fruit, is not diminished, not destroyed, there is such a situation. Because holding the grasped object that has become like that is no different from memory, therefore it is an extreme consequence. The thought is this: If all valid cognitions are those that have the fruit of certainty, even so, the non-conceptual, the nature of non-certainty, also generates certainty for the grasped object, then it is a valid cognition. Because, that and the object that is different from that, with the certainty of the reason for being different, is the object, and not another. Moreover, after grasping all of itself with direct perception, by its own power it becomes the object of certainty, until then, it is a valid cognition. Therefore, the direct perception that is able to ascertain in this way, before the arising of certainty, abides as a valid cognition itself. Otherwise, because it was not a valid cognition before, how would it become a valid cognition? Even if it is like that, for the direct perception that arises holding the object that is able to ascertain, whether it is the sense consciousness or the mental consciousness of the object of that meaning, there is no difference from memory. How does the direct perception with certainty arise? Certainty itself is memory, likewise in others

It is also like that. However, for the determined object, it is merely designated as memory. Even if certainty has not arisen, but it holds the meaning to be proven in a way that can determine, it is memory because there is no unprecedented difference, just like the certainty produced by the power of direct perception. From the parts of the reasoning, the subsequent moments of direct perception, etc., are because there is no difference between establishment and happiness. Thus it is said. In this way, even if one does not pay attention, one can still hold on to it, but like the subsequent moment arising from the root consciousness, it is a valid cognition for the meaning that needs to be constantly established. However, for yogis who want to establish the difference of moments, it is reasonable that it is not a valid cognition. For the expression of what is seen, whatever other consciousness there is, that itself is a valid cognition. From some causes of confusion, there is no ability to determine, and it is not a valid cognition, just like when mistaking it for water, the consciousness that holds the nature of a mirage, because there is no certainty, it is not establishing the object of entry. To show other faults, it is said: For any complete action, in order to particularly establish it, that which can particularly establish it is not like that. For wood, although the nature of two things is established, the cause that becomes the nature of two things in other aspects, the axe is the establisher, so it is specifically said to be a non-differentiator. Becoming such a thing is the establisher. Saying "is" means holding the meaning of the language "the thing is like that." And the word "again" is the meaning contained in words such as "other faults," etc., expressed by words such as "is past." The way of establishing is the reason, and what makes it the establisher is the nature of the thing that can be established. Transcending that is transcendence, which means abandonment. If it is an establisher, how can it do nothing at all? If it does nothing at all, how can it establish? If it is an establisher, then it has transcended the reason. Because what indicates the object of previous entry is the establisher, and this sound of valid cognition also has the object of the establisher.
