In summary, to gather all that has passed into one whole is to interrelate things that have pure concepts. Regarding the distinctions and so on within them, one should separately grasp the ultimate destination of worldly customs. For those things that are grasped separately, one should also mix them according to their respective attachments, thereby understanding them. In this way, one can distinguish between distinctions and things that possess distinctions. What was said earlier, that there is no order, is not so. Another way of saying it is "name." Explaining the meaning of the phrases is: distinctions and the basis of distinctions, and the connection between them; worldly classifications, that is, the classification of distinctions and things that possess distinctions, is worldly classification. Distinctions and things that possess distinctions, which arise from sound, should be understood from the world itself, not from the things themselves. The very nature of things themselves does not possess any distinction, or benefit and perfection, but rather comes from perfected things and the causes and results of perfection. These things themselves are prior and subsequent, so they cannot exist simultaneously. The entities of distinctions and things that possess distinctions also exist. Therefore, this (distinction and possessing distinction) exists simultaneously in itself, but not in things that have order. For things that exist simultaneously, there is also no relationship of benefiting and being benefited. If it is said that benefit arises from relationship, then if the relationship is not different from the things that have the relationship, then it is not the cause of benefit and being benefited, just like the very nature of the things that have the relationship. Even if there is a difference, among the three things that constantly abide in their own nature, there is not even a slight distinction between primary and secondary. Therefore, recognizing that something possesses a certain distinction is merely the function of sound, not the state of things. Precisely because of this, in the cognition of the senses, through the reversal of the form of sound, even if the distinctions and things that possess distinctions established by sound are reversed, one must also reverse them through other means. Therefore, one should view it this way: this is such a distinction, and this is a distinction.

The particular thing is only this, and the particularity is also only this. Fully understanding and ascertaining the nature of particularity and the particular thing is to subsequently realize the worldly nomenclature. For example, it is said that "a man has a stick," not that "a stick is a man who has a person," which is a term. In the world, wealth and the object of the owner are not considered the particularity of the stick, but rather it is established by possession. Similarly, a horn is established by gathering, and wearing a horn on the head is not the particularity of the reason for the word "horned." Understanding these, some particular things are considered particular things by some particularities. Combining particularities and so on is to mix them together, mixing all the meanings that are grasped in a principal way. This way of unifying is related to following and associating after grasping the state of non-particularity. Without first grasping the pure nature, one cannot see grasping things with particularity. Therefore, in the state of purity, the particular things and particularities that are grasped are considered the nature of having particularity, and by combining these four, the knowledge that is able to know, that is what grasps the particular thing. As long as the nature of approximate accomplishment is not known through particularity, then approximate accomplishment will not be understood either, because grasping the nature of approximate accomplishment is done simultaneously with grasping things that are not approximately accomplished. Understanding the association of particularities in this way can be given as follows: the seen Devadatta is one with a stick, and Gombu is horned, thus first grasping the non-particularity, and then grasping the things with particularity after it. Therefore, combination has two ways: seeing non-particularity, and considering the nature of having particularity as one, whichever it is, it is mixing the four together into beneficial things, and this is grasping the particular thing. Therefore, combination is the third characteristic of such a state. That is to say, these two ways of combination themselves are particular things.

It is said to be regarded as... That is what is said. The mention of "after summing up" in the verse is because it becomes the object of speech in consideration of the understanding of the previous summing up, so it should be observed. If it is summed up, it becomes the speech of understanding special things, that is its meaning. This order is also explained by "established on the staff, etc." like holding a staff, etc. Otherwise, it is the understanding of special things. Why is that? If one cannot understand the relationship between the meaning of the special and the special thing, and the way of expression just mentioned, it is impossible to understand the special thing. If you show reasoning, then "Sad is a caste," etc. are used to indicate the object, that is what is said. Because the consciousness that manifests things does not have a way of expression, it is impossible to combine names with sensory consciousness. Even if things appear in one consciousness, they are not distinguished, so by preventing the mixing of names, this difference of mixing things becomes clear. For substances, etc. in which genus, qualities, and actions exist, it is not considered in this way. Why is that? It is explained that because different self-natures and relationships do not appear, because they do not appear in the self-nature of consciousness, it is not appropriate to combine. If you grasp different self-natures and relationships, they will combine, otherwise they will not. In order to show the object of this difference, it is said, "Like milk and water." Just as there is no combination when relationships and differences do not appear. Also, what does not appear in those things? For water and milk, wisdom refers to the relationship between milk and water, and the wisdom that understands different self-natures, but that is not reasonable for it. Just as conceptual thought does not mix milk and water because differences and relationships do not appear. Whoever does not grasp the self-nature difference of something does not mix them, like water and milk that he does not know. The self-nature difference of genus and having genus is also not grasped by a person.
