Then, what is promised and the reasoning are also not valid, so it is said. Since this is the case, how can it be said that the vase and so on are selfless from what is promised or the reasoning is not valid? Therefore, selflessness is not all-pervasive because there is no life and so on. Furthermore, by merely promising, the words of self and selflessness are distinguished, and then the vase and so on, others or I promise to be selfless, therefore it is selfless. For the living body, we promise to be selfless. Therefore, it is not selfless, like this, distinguishing, for selflessness, because there is no life and so on, so it is the place of my realization. Life and so on return from selflessness, because it is distinguished by having self, so being all-pervasive is established through scripture. From that, because I am established, so I will also be established through scripture. Therefore, because the realm of being all-pervasive is established by promise, so there is no being all-pervasive. If it returns merely because it is not seen, then for life and so on selflessness, because it is not seen, so it will return, therefore this will become the place of understanding. This is also not the place to want to understand, therefore it only wants to understand through the relationship of self-nature. If it returns merely because it is not seen, then nothing is established, and the word "combination" should also be added. Likewise, from the word "likewise" to the end of what is to be said is the language of unestablished combination. In order to show the four kinds of unestablished, namely the two, any one, hesitation, and cessation, in the dharma to be proven, and to compare them with the nine kinds of property of the subject, so it is said "likewise." How to explain the four kinds of unestablished on the subject of the dharma to be proven? Likewise, explain the property of the subject. Whatever exists in the similar side and does not exist in the similar side, etc., for those, it should also be said that the four kinds of unestablished are on the similar side and the dissimilar side. Whatever is unestablished on the similar side or any other side, it should be said on that side. If it is thought that it returns merely because of the reason of not seeing, then after explaining the four kinds of unestablished on the subject of the dharma to be proven, the realm of the similar side and the dissimilar side is compared with the nine kinds of property of the subject.

Combining the unestablished of tree growth does not become the meaning to be expressed. Why? Because it is said that if it is only unseen, doubt will arise. From where does that come? Because it is said that if it is seen, there is no doubt. In some cases, there is no other form of dharma other than seeing and not seeing. Among them, seeing is certain, not doubt. The remainder, only not seeing, is therefore doubt, and contradiction also comes from that. If doubt arises about contradiction only from not seeing, what will happen? Because of that reason, doubt cannot be eliminated. Because contradiction is established by not seeing, and the establishment of contradiction itself is what makes one understand, therefore, one should eliminate from what makes one understand, and the elimination of doubt is also not established, so combining the unestablished should not be done. Like this, because the word "as appropriate" is said, doubting the contradiction is only impossible to eliminate. Only when one of the concordant and discordant sides has all four types of unestablished, should it be combined. Therefore, if the unestablished of doubting the discordant side is not spoken of as a fault of the reason, then, to refute this, it is said, "not because of this." Why? Because it is said, "Whatever is certain for both," etc. Whatever is certainly said to both is what establishes or refutes, but if one speaks of establishment and doubt to either side, that is not it, that is what the scholar means. For both the proponent and the opponent, whatever word expresses a certain meaning is what establishes or refutes the subsequent inference of other meanings, but if one speaks of establishment and doubt to either side, that is not it. Here, this treatise is an example, whatever speaks of unestablished or doubt to the proponent and the opponent is not what establishes or refutes. The dharma of doubting contradiction also doubts the discordant side of both, therefore, saying that is not established, and that is not a reason, that is what is to be explained. If doubt arises about contradiction
