Moreover, for a combination possessing such a nature, in effect, through implication, the understanding of incompatible properties exists. The way to show that implication is that if the wisdom understanding the opposite does not exist, then the thing to be proven will not follow the reason. Even if the wisdom of the opposite does not exist, the following from sound will also not be definite. The meaning is like this: If any property to be proven is opposite from itself, then the doubt that the proving property will not be opposite will become a doubt that the proving property is separate from that property to be proven. Therefore, if following is understood through the statement of following, then the opposite will also be understood. If it is not like that, then the following itself will not be understood. Similarly, for a combination of properties that are incompatible in effect, following will definitely occur. If that does not exist, that is, if following is not understood, then for the non-existence of the thing to be proven, there will be doubt that the opposite does not have a reason. Wherever a reason exists, there will be doubt that the thing to be proven exists, and from there, if the opposite is proven, there will be doubt that the proving thing will be opposite. Therefore, if the opposite is understood through the words of the opposite, then following will also be understood. If it is not like that, then there will be doubt about the opposite itself. If the nature of being audible and the nature of impermanence are opposite in space, and the nature of being visible is also opposite from that, then even if the nature of being audible exists, the nature of impermanence and the nature of being visible do not exist. So, does there not exist an opposite without following? To that, this will be explained later, and this meaning will be explained. Merely because it is not seen, one property is opposite to another property, but that is not the case. However, if there is a connection between them, then that is so. Therefore, understanding the opposite of another property through the opposite of one property must be done by understanding the connection between them through valid cognition. Following is definite only after the connection is ascertained. Therefore, there is no opposite without following. For these, there is neither following nor opposite. Any

So, what are the two reasons for contemplating these dharmas? It is explained: "Slightly done are those reasons to be combined," which refers to showing the reason in the manner of a signifier. "Everything is impermanent," which refers to showing what is to be proven in the manner of what is signified. Saying "everything" is for the sake of certainty, that is, "everything is impermanent, that is only impermanent," because what is limited by the word "only" is done in order to grasp with certainty from beyond that, and what has just arisen is certain to be impermanent. For example, "like a vase, etc.," this refers to fully showing the object of valid cognition that thoroughly proves the things that can be pervasive and pervasively acting. "Sound is also made," which refers to closely showing the property of the subject, this is the connection that possesses concomitance. It has been shown that being made itself is definitely impermanent, and since that which is made, which possesses impermanence, is also present in sound, therefore, implicitly, sound becomes possessed of impermanence. Therefore, here, the subject does not need to be shown definitively. In the connection that possesses reversal, if the impermanence to be proven does not exist, then it would not become made, this has been shown definitively, that is, the reversal of what is to be proven is definitely on the reversal of the reason, and is not separate from it. "Sound is made," this refers to showing that the proof does not have reversal, the proof exists, therefore, since there is no what is to be proven, etc., here, implicitly, what is to be proven exists, therefore the subject does not need to be combined. In order to clarify that very point, it is said, "in its essence." The very essence of impermanence is its essence. Whatever is established there, its thing becomes the cause there, therefore, by its nature, if impermanence reverses, then being made also reverses. If being made does not exist, then non-existence itself also reverses, and when it is also shown to be present in sound, this shows the property of the subject. When it is shown in this way, it will be understood that the thing exists in the nature of impermanence, and not merely so.
