Q: Why is it not immediately non-existent? A: It is also evident for things that have become fruit. This is what is said: If the fruit of the nature of enhancement is hidden, then doubt will arise, but hiddenness is not like that. Like this, having the happiness of the reason for determining the object in one's own continuum, and recognizing that the object is also related to oneself, this is enhancement. That is not its hiddenness, therefore, determining that it is not immediately non-existent also determines that it is not without similarity. If it is examined that it is not like not possessing that fruit, then it will undoubtedly become inverted. Because it does not exist, its fruit does not exist, this is inverted. If asked: How is this inverted and not the true reason? The answer is: "From the cause" and so on are said. Like rats and mad dogs, just like the venom of mad dogs transforms. Like this, the venom does not immediately transform when it first enters, but it occurs when the difference in time when it wants to act together is near, because there is no other cause. Similarly, others will also transform. It is not just seeing and not seeing, but because that thing has the ability to produce a decisive fruit, and there is no contradiction in the existence of objects beyond the senses, therefore, for the cause of enhancement or objects beyond the senses, merely not appearing without being separated from the difference that can be observed is not valid cognition. Not only is it impossible to deny the cause of enhancement and so on, but it is also impossible to establish, saying "What valid cognition is there for its arising?" This is what it means. In order to dispel others' doubts and abandonment, it is said "for that very reason." For that which can neither establish nor harm the meaning that is extremely beyond the senses, then those with discrimination should doubt. Or, if it is not reasonable to examine any object that can neither be overturned nor has valid cognition established, because for this, there is sometimes the possibility of valid cognition being established. Some things that one did not know before are later known.

Similarly, uncertain valid cognition also becomes known as something else due to the power of habit, or because it is closely shown by another knowledgeable person. Thus, the meaning of the text is: that which has a conceptual mind towards the object of valid cognition that is to be proven, and doubts it, is certain to be without an object of doubt, this is the meaning. It is not that the teacher himself has valid cognition, because the teacher has not closely stated the cause of manifest superiority, which is to prove this, in some other aspects. Therefore, the meaning is that one should not abandon it because of doubting the meaning or valid cognition. Because it also generates a decisive result, therefore, understanding that there are some meanings such as the cause of manifest superiority, nature, or detachment from desire, etc., for this suprasensory thing is not established, because there is no clear appearance. It is said here that if one understands through some meanings, then that is appearance, but that is also unclear, so it is not certain for all aspects. The causes are also for generating results. Therefore, since the result is not seen immediately, one cannot admit the cause of manifest superiority through its result, just as seeing smoke can admit the ability to generate fire. Similarly, since the appearance of suprasensory things, that is, the nature of the mind's consciousness, is not clear, it is not apprehended by direct perception, and because the appearance is not clear, one cannot see the nature or result to be established, or be certain in that way. This is also the fault of the observer for existing things. The fault of causes and results will also be explained by "causes, etc." Even if they have the ability in their own continuum, it is not certain to produce a result of different characteristics. If the result cannot be produced by the nature of one's own continuum, then it will become a non-thing. Seeing the result of one's own continuum, one cannot infer that thing, however, the appearance is
