Those things that are not expressed by the sound of "etc.", if they are not things expressed by the sound of agility, etc., but are different from the things expressed by the sound, therefore, understand that they are the opposite of the distinguishing word particles. Then, because there is no difference in the existence of others, other dharmas such as generosity will also be understood as the opposite, if such doubts arise. Explaining, for those three things that distinguish, one will also understand distinguishing opposites, distinguishing contrary things, and distinguishing inverted things, the meanings of those things. That is to say, one will understand the meaning of being inverted from certain definite dharmas. If agility is proven, it will distinguish the opposite of non-agility, but not just others. If the non-common agility of establishing the proposition is proven, it will distinguish the agility that is common to all beings, but not generosity, etc. Similarly, if the existence of blue itself is proven, it will distinguish non-existence, but not others. In this way, one should observe the three distinguishing results of all speech. For example, saying "This is the path to longevity," all three distinctions of the difference of ignorant doubt are possible. From the two paths, this is the one, and the other is not, this is the distinction with others. If one doubts "Is this the path to longevity, or the path to another village?" and answers "It is precisely the path to longevity," this is an irrelevant distinction. If one doubts "Whether to walk, or not to walk," and answers "Precisely walking," this is a completely irrelevant distinction. Similarly, it can also be applied to other situations. Also, why is it only inverting the opposite, and not others? Answering, as it is said, the word particles of worldly distinction are only inverting the opposite, and not others, this is the worldly convention. Therefore, because it is said that way, it will be understood that that is the inversion. For example, understanding the meaning of sound is following the worldly convention, there is no other reason, similarly, inverting others from the meaning of sound is also from convention, this is a summary statement. If the expression of sound has no difference...

If you ask, why are some things considered to be negations, but not all? The answer is, because of the ability. Even if it is not the meaning of the sound, being considered a negation is not without reason, but because of the power of the sound. If one cannot completely exclude non-agility, then the word agility would be meaningless. In reality, it is agility itself that excludes non-agility. Similarly, if one cannot completely exclude generosity, then the word agility would not become meaningless. Therefore, because sound does not have the power to exclude other things, it is not considered to exclude other things. Because of the power of sound, it is said generally. If you say, since all combined sounds are for understanding their own meaning, then the opposite nature mentioned here is not what is to be expressed, the answer is: sound follows the intention to express. That is, sound is for expressing the meaning of the language that one wants to express, it follows the intention to express. This is what is said, sound expresses the manifestation that one wants to express, not the non-manifest. Moreover, what one wants to express also applies to distinguishing opposites. Just like this, by eliminating the place of doubt of ignorance, one wants to express some meaning, therefore, what the speaker wants to express is the manifest meaning, the sound wants to express the meaning that one wants to express, some meanings want to be negated, and this is precisely the opposite. Just like this, if one does not negate the opposite side, then the meaning that one wants to express will become meaningless, but merely not negating other things is not the case. Therefore, the meaning of all sounds follows the intention to express, and the intention to express is also not suitable for negating the opposite, so sound is the expresser, through the power of the expresser, even if it is not what is to be expressed, it is negated by words that distinguish the opposite nature, this is what is called negation, not other things. If you say, because it is said so in the Pramāṇavārttika, and because of the ability, and because sound follows the intention to express, therefore, these three are summarized as reasons.
