Therefore, is this a jewel or is it in another place? This is doubt that holds both possibilities. The object here is something that is judged to be both existent and non-existent. But such a thing does not exist at all. Then, by what means can it be obtained, so that this knowledge becomes a valid cognition? A thing is either uniquely existent or non-existent. It is impossible to possess both attributes. Because the obtained jewel is definitely existent, but this knowledge apprehends it as not definitely existent, therefore, what it determines is not what is obtained. Even considering the uncertain meaning, it cannot become a valid cognition, because (in the scriptures) it is said, "Having ascertained, abide," and in the Pramāṇavārttika it is also said, "Because there is no deception in thought, it is a valid cognition." Doubt is not subsequent inference. This is not another valid cognition, such as, if the indicated object of entry is obtained, then knowledge is a valid cognition. But the indicated object of entry is not to be obtained. For example, the jewel that it indicates is unobtainable, and the object that is obtained is not indicated by it. The difference in object, time, and form is related to contradictory dharmas, because the capacity and appearance, etc., are different, which has been said before. The reason for possessing contradictory dharmas is also different. Therefore, even if there is no difference in the jewel itself, because the object is different, the determination is different, and the attainment is also different. If it is said that even if one is deceived in other aspects, one is not deceived in the jewel itself, it cannot be said so. Because the jewel itself is determined to have the difference of object. The object of entry of a valid cognition also depends on the function of knowledge, not on what is done by desire. Therefore, just as mistaking a mirage for water and clinging to the thing itself, that is not a valid cognition, because the actual substance belonging to water is not obtained, and there are many other reasons. Similarly, knowing a jewel with a direction is also not a valid cognition, because the mere jewel is not grasped, and the characteristic of having a direction that is grasped is also unobtainable. However, direct perception also...

A non-momentariness is certain. The meaning of blue to be obtained is multiple moments. Through inference, just as seen, a single non-momentariness is certain. If it is said that what is to be obtained is something else, then that is not reasonable. Because the very existence of everything is the reason for having a function. The blue that is the object of focus is also capable of functioning. Therefore, existence is the very thing that is seen. The moment itself or the ultimate atom itself, or anything else, may be acceptable, but existence must be acknowledged as distinct from it. Therefore, the moment itself is indeed the blue that is seen, but nevertheless, it is merely determined as non-momentary. Therefore, it is not that something else is obtained through direct perception, but rather, the very blue that is seen is the nature of a moment. Similarly, if it is said that inference can also explain the object, then the moment is also the same, and it can also be obtained. The determination as the moment itself is by another valid cognition, and its nature is the very blue, and so on. Similarly, a jewel located in another place cannot be established as existing in the nature of being located in another place. Therefore, when grasping another nature, since it is not grasping a nature that does not belong to it, grasping a jewel located in another place does not completely ascertain the jewel located in another place, therefore it is not a valid cognition for it. Therefore, the supreme meaning is this: if the determination has not obtained all the parts of the object that has been made into an object, even so, it is not obtaining something different from what is seen. In this way, whatever nature is contrary to the determined part and has become external to it, the knowledge of it does not ascertain it, just as grasping blue does not ascertain yellow. Similarly, the nature of a jewel located in another place is also contrary to the nature of what is seen. That which is not determined is also not the object of valid cognition. If momentariness itself is not determined by the knowledge of blue, then how is it an object? Even if the moment itself is not determined, it is not said to be the object of blue.
