Therefore, because it is associated with (reliable) means of cognition, it is different from seeming inference, and this is the intention here. Some say that understanding the light of a jewel as a jewel is an arrangement made by the teacher considering it as inference, but this is unreasonable. Because, the inverted understanding of the apprehended aspect itself is a deception, like a seeming inference. Therefore, if all inferences are refuted, how can some inferences be valid while others are not? This view that (the light of a jewel) is meaningless and different from others in terms of non-deception is not valid. Just as obtaining a jewel from recognizing a jewel, obtaining fire from recognizing fire born of a cow is well known in the world. Therefore, if someone thinks this is another example, then this is not a distinction made by fame from other inferences either. This is not an inference approved by the teacher. Furthermore, if inference must be preceded by the certainty of non-arising without it, then for the light of a jewel, it cannot be certain that it is the light of a jewel. Therefore, how can this be an inference? Just as the eye itself cannot see but can make things manifest, a lamp can also make things manifest when it can see itself. And the result, whether its own nature can see or not, is a means of understanding hidden things. Therefore, understanding hidden things depends on the action of following and reversing. Therefore, as a sign, the reason for understanding hidden things lies solely in the fact that it must be non-arising without it. Precisely for this reason, the ways of knowing are different. For example, if it cannot be certain that in all cases it is non-existent without it, then smoke cannot make one recognize fire. Only in some aspects, when smoke is considered the fruit of fire, can it make one recognize fire. Therefore, due to the nature of the argument being related to the thing to be proven, the thing to be proven can be understood. And other things that understand things are

It is not. If it is said that this is necessarily "having fire," etc., and that the probandum is not established, and that the sign depends on concomitance and contraposition, etc., these will be mentioned. There are two ways to grasp the sign without error: one is to grasp the pervasion universally without relying on the subject; the other is to remember what has already been grasped and is not mistaken when grasping the property of the subject. If one does not remember what has already been grasped and is not mistaken, then one cannot realize what is to be proven. For example, after seeing smoke, one will understand that this is produced from fire in all cases, so here too it is produced from fire. Remembering that it is produced from fire in all cases is the knowledge of the sign; remembering that this place is also produced by fire, the non-erroneous remembrance of the subject to be proven, this itself is the realization of the hidden meaning. Moreover, universally grasping the pervasion is prior. Therefore, it is said that the knowledge of the sign is the cause of the knowledge of the subject, meaning that universally grasping without error is a branch of remembering the subject without error. Then, if one thinks, how does the knowledge arise that this is undoubtedly a jewel or the light of a jewel, therefore there is a jewel in this place? That is not inference either. For example, if one knows that this is undoubtedly Deva-datta or a sacrificial offering, then it is reasonable to doubt the existence or non-existence of Deva-datta, and so is the sacrificial offering. When Deva-datta exists, the sacrificial offering does not exist, and when the sacrificial offering exists, Deva-datta does not exist. Similarly, here too, the existence or non-existence of the jewel and the light of the jewel are examined, so one will doubt that the appearing thing is a jewel, and one will also doubt that it is the light of a jewel. Therefore, this is like a doubtful unestablished pseudo-reason, and meaning cannot be established from a pseudo-reason. Similarly, the knowledge that there is a jewel here is also when one clings to the appearing light of the jewel as a jewel, the certainty of a jewel existing in another direction in one corner...
