The knowledge of signs, which is empty of the nature of fire, but clings to its essence. Therefore, for that reason, it is established as an illusion. If one clings to the essence of what is non-existent, then it is not non-deceptive, like the knowledge of similarity and so forth. Inferential knowledge is also an illusion, therefore it is not non-deceptive. Furthermore, if what has not been grasped is clung to, then it will not be obtained, like the knowledge of a cow as a horse. Likewise, its own characteristics are also not grasped. Therefore, it will not be obtained. In order to dispel the doubt that since it is the obtainer, it is the grasper, and since it is the grasper, it is itself non-deceptive, therefore, examples are given such as "regarding the light of a jewel lamp." To the objects of jewels and lamp light, those beings who manifest and run because of generating the thought of a jewel. Erroneous knowledge, even though there is no difference in deception. Regarding the light of a jewel and the light of a butter lamp, those cognitions that know it as a jewel are no different in being erroneous knowledge and deceptive, because neither obtains the object clung to. Just as knowing the light of a butter lamp as a jewel, and thinking that the reason for being able to accomplish the purpose does not exist at all. Likewise, clinging to a jewel in the light of a jewel is not correct. However, although here it does not obtain its own object, it becomes another cause of the knowledge that obtains because it is related to the jewel through indirect means, therefore it becomes the cause of obtaining the jewel. Therefore, there is a difference in accomplishing the purpose. Just as these are no different in deceiving their own objects, but there is a difference in whether or not there is a reason for the knowledge of the reason for being able to accomplish the purpose, because one is related to the jewel through indirect means. Likewise, inference and appearances, although they are not things as they are, and are mistaken in the aspect of grasping meaningless things, inference is valid because it is related to accomplishing the purpose. For it, just as what is assumed, it is able to be obtained, because the sign is in between.

Therefore, because it is related to that thing. On the other hand, it is not an obtainer, because it is not related to the external, which is similar to a fabrication. Therefore, this means that all knowledge that is similar in holding meaningless things should not be similar in obtaining definite meaning. Just as in the objects of jewels and lamplight, deception is no different, but because being related and unrelated to the continuous are the reasons for obtaining and not obtaining, even though there is no difference in deception in the things held, the related and unrelated things, only inference itself can actually obtain such a fabrication, which is valid cognition, while the other is not. Therefore, saying that holding non-existent things is no different from holding other non-existent things is uncertain. Saying that whatever is not held is not definite is also wrong, because just as recognizing a jewel but not being held is the same, discrimination also determines its own characteristic that is not held. If it is said that if one does not hold the acting thing, how can one determine one's own characteristic? The answer is that the knowledge is to separate oneself from the form that is not fire, and to separate oneself from the relationship with another object, fabricating it as the nature of fire of the object that is obviously desired. Therefore, whatever the fabricated thing is like, one's own characteristic is also the same. Therefore, when the meaning of the fabricated thing is determined, one's own characteristic is determined. The so-called determination of one's own characteristic is not an action different from the fabricated thing. One's own characteristic, for whom, in what way it is determined, enters into it, therefore it is an obtainer, therefore it is valid cognition, such as the knowledge arising from seeing a sign. Other knowledge is not valid cognition, only it is valid cognition. Therefore, just like that, the knowledge of a jewel is deceptive, but because it is related to the thing, therefore through indirect means, the thing deceived by the thing that is the cause of obtaining is different from other things, even though there is no difference in holding false things, inference is the thing
