If it is said that the Sautrantikas can establish cause and effect, but for the Vijnanavadins, the distinction between effect and pramana cannot be established. The explanation is, for example, with regard to desire and so on, it is feeling because of this consciousness; feeling is the nature of awareness. The external object is also like that. The so-called "self-location" means that one's own nature is the location. Establishment means to be established as the fruit of the nature of consciousness. This is what is being said: for the self-awareness direct perception of mind and mental factors, what is to be known by oneself, the knower is the nature of awareness, this is pramana. The nature to be known by oneself is the fruit, and there, although pramana and fruit do not appear as other entities, similarly, for the Vijnanavadins, all consciousnesses have the object to be measured, the means of measuring, and the fruit, this should be universally applied. In order to clarify the nature of external objects, it is explained that the self that experiences from external objects, because it is the nature of awareness, therefore the nature of desire and so on is experience, it is capable of experiencing. Because of that reason, their capability is pramana, oneself is the object to be measured, self-awareness is the fruit, similarly, it is also the same for the Vijnanavadins. That or for that, means for the Vijnanavadins. The verse established by the previous verse, this has been shown, but it has not clarified the nature of external objects. In order to show the synonyms of the word pramana in Vijnanavada, it is explained that whatever is the nature of complete determination is called and proclaimed as the aspect of the grasper, and is also called self-capable, this is what is called pramana in Vijnanavada, self-knowing oneself is pramana. Consciousness by consciousness, that is to say, the special nature that becomes by the nature of awareness, because it becomes one's own self, therefore it is expressed by the word consciousness. If, like this, one completely grasps consciousness by consciousness as the aspect of establishing things, then the fruit will be expressed. Acharya Dignaga said that self-awareness is pramana.

Regarding what was said there, if one thinks that the sound of wisdom can establish things, doubts will arise. Is wisdom referring to wisdom, that is, those expressed as the result? If that itself is valid cognition, then the result and valid cognition would become indistinguishable. To dispel doubts, to completely sever them, it is said that only the self-nature is valid cognition, and that itself is called self-awareness. This is what is said. The verses that were not established by the previous verses are verses that show the meaning obtained by wisdom. Simultaneous perception and wisdom negate external objects in the aspect of non-appearance. Therefore, even if external objects exist, one should regard the meaning of appearance and its mind as not different. This is the explanation of this: simultaneous perception and wisdom should be viewed as establishing that the apprehended blue and so on and that wisdom are not different. Wisdom is the nature of experience, and simultaneous perception is also non-different. By this, there is another meaning that remains here. Since there is no benefactor and no object to be benefited, the two simultaneous perceptions at the same time are complete severance and incomplete severance. Therefore, that is, because of this, the mind is of two kinds, namely, grasping the nature of the object and grasping the nature of knowing, and it is established in two ways by the nature of what is grasped and what is grasped. The other party says, if appearance is not different from knowing, then how can one know since it is understood that external objects are not established? If it is said that what is established by direct perception is not a separate entity, then how can it be certain that it exists? The teacher, being impartial, said: The external object is the reversal of the result, and it is established and certain from the absence of things. For example, even if there is another cause, the eye consciousness sometimes changes, so the eye is inferred. Similarly, even if there is another cause of ability, the nature of the senses and mind consciousness, because there is no consciousness of the appearance of the result, such as walls, it is inferred, and whatever other cause there is, that will become the meaning of the external object. If in this debate, only the Vijnanavada is taken, that is, the complete maturation of habits is the difference.
