If the object of focus is not ultimately reached, then because one dwells on subsequent objects of focus, one's own object of focus cannot be accomplished. Therefore, it is said that the earlier and earlier objects will not be accomplished. If one thinks: if the later consciousness does not arise, then the earlier consciousness will not be accomplished. Since it is generated by the earlier one, then the objects of the earlier and later ones must be accomplished, why is it said that even if the meanings are contradictory, one will not realize it? To this doubt, it is explained: even if one consciousness is not accomplished, everything will not be accomplished. If the earlier consciousness exists and some things are focused on, then if one does not know even a little about the consciousness of consciousness, then, because consciousness is not accomplished, things will not be accomplished, so one seeks the consciousness of consciousness. Therefore, it is said that if one is not accomplished, everything will not be accomplished, so nothing will be realized. If one thinks: when the object of focus reaches the ultimate, will everything be focused on? To this, it is also said that its arising is ultimate, because everything can give rise to the consciousness that focuses on itself. If one consciousness cannot give rise to another consciousness that has its own object, then everything will not change, because without self-awareness, there is no difference to everything. If some are self-aware, then they will also reach the ultimate. Otherwise, it is not. If there is no ultimate, one will become blind and dumb, which contradicts experience. If one admits that the object of focus is ultimate in some place, then the ultimate object of focus is one's own nature, without anything else, and the image of self and object will be focused on, and the other, that is, the earlier object of focus, will also become the nature of self and other's awareness. Because there is no cause for difference, it is unreasonable for one itself and another to be separated from the nature of self-awareness. Therefore, this argument is established. Because difference is set as the reason for sequence. If one focuses on two, then the action of one is unreasonable, because if one is only momentary, then it will not exist at the time of the second action. If it is not momentary, then it has no difference, because there is no ability to distinguish, so all actions related to one's own nature will happen simultaneously. Therefore,

The argument is established. Whatever is definitely perceived together with something is not different from it, just as two moons appear from one moon. The aspects of objects such as blue are also definitely perceived together with consciousness. Difference is pervaded by the uncertainty of simultaneous perception, because there is no connection. The opposite of this is the certainty of simultaneous perception; therefore, the opposite of the pervasive factor, by being perceived, prevents difference. The word 'also' indicates that another argument is being clarified, which is 'consciousness' also. The word 'is called' holds the sound of consciousness. The meaning of this word 'consciousness' is that it appears as such. Consciousness is thus, it appears very clearly in the nature of consciousness, and is not other. Furthermore, how does consciousness appear in the nature of consciousness? It is said 'that,' because consciousness is its very nature, because it is the nature of clarity. Thus, because consciousness is the nature of clarity and is not other, therefore consciousness appears in the nature of consciousness. It may be granted that consciousness is the nature of clarity, but how is it that consciousness appears only in the nature of experience and not in anything else? It is said, 'It is not something else,' because consciousness is not the essence of anything else, but is only knowledge, therefore consciousness appears only in the nature of experience. If 'appearance' were the nature of an object different from what makes it appear, then appearance would not appear in the very nature of what makes it appear, just as the illuminator of appearance, which is a lamp, and which becomes the object of a single consciousness together with the lamp, is of a nature different from the lamp. Therefore, the appearance of the pot appears in the nature of the lamp, but is of a nature different from the lamp. Whatever object is made clear by consciousness is not of a nature different from consciousness, but is only consciousness. Like self-awareness, for example, self-illumination is not a nature different from the illuminator, therefore, the self-illuminating
