Therefore, it does not depend on an object to be experienced, as those who speak of external objects conjecture. Therefore, that experience itself is not the nature of something else. How could the nature of consciousness become something else? Because the nature of something else is not other. If it is not to be apprehended by another mind, then how is this to be individually cognized by direct perception, being the very object of true experience? That is also the very nature of this, that is, the nature of direct perception. This is what is said: it itself is the direct perception for itself, but not for another. When it arises in the nature of experience, it is the direct perception for its own nature. Because that direct perception is itself fully manifest by the very nature of knowledge, and does not depend on another to be manifest like blue and so on. Therefore, it is shown that it makes itself manifest, just like manifestation. Because appearance is said to make itself manifest when it is itself fully manifest. This is what is said: in this self-awareness, there is no difference between the grasped and the grasper, but when the self is fully manifest, it is shown as the nature of the direct perception that grasps itself. How then is the manifestation of blue and so on their experience? It is said: blue and so on are also called experience. This term also does not express difference, but rather refers to the experience that is the very nature of blue and so on. Is not the aspect of the grasped confused? How then does it become the nature of experience? Indeed, this is emphatically proclaiming the negation of other things. Therefore, the meaning is this: whatever is manifested by consciousness, other things such as blue and so on do not exist, but the very consciousness that is deluded is like this, it shows the aspect of non-existence. The aspect shown by the nature of consciousness is transformed from itself and manifest, and when it is manifest only by itself, it is called its own nature. Finished.

And, whatever is the aspect of the grasped that experiences cessation, and whatever is the aspect of the grasper that holds the nature of joy, etc., and whatever is its experience, if these are experienced as they are, then wouldn't these two aspects and the experience of grasping's nature become three undesirable things? Because the grasped is the object to be grasped, and the aspect of the grasper is also the object to be experienced, and the internal complete determination is also the nature of self-awareness, it will be said. When this is distinguished, it becomes three natures, and experiencing one's own nature is called the third aspect. Therefore, blue, etc., are the aspects of the grasped, and the internal aspect of its grasping activity is the second, and the experience of its coolness, etc., is the third. As it says in the Pramāṇavārttika: "The aspect of the grasped appears as cessation, and consciousness also appears as grasping cessation, but for its own nature, it appears as experiencing without cessation." There it is said that the grasped is the object, and experiencing one's own nature, these two appear as different. Even if they are not the same, however, the consciousness with the aspect of the grasped and the grasper, because it is the ultimate truth, will not become dualistic. Things that are not real will not appear clearly, like a rabbit's horn. To this doubt, the answer is: For anything that does not have the aspects of the knower and the known. If those are not there, then how do those appear? The answer is: At any time, that is, because in any way it is seen and realized by the delusion that is defiled by the habits of ignorance, therefore this is established in this way. The meaning is: For the ignorant, this ignorance itself is what completely shows the unreal nature. Therefore, the power to show the nature of no consciousness is the habit of ignorance, and from having that, consciousness itself completely shows the aspect of the grasped that is not present in itself, and the grasper itself that depends on it to show itself. Therefore, the characteristic of distinguishing the grasped and the grasper, that is, the distinguished

Whatever is experienced naturally is obscured. When ignorance is fully manifested, it is seen that way. Just as it is seen, distinctions are also made between the grasper, the grasped, and the experience. For example, the characteristics of the parts of the grasper and the grasped, such as hair seen due to being obscured by cataracts, are different, and the experience of the aspect of the grasper is different, which is not ultimately real. Therefore, what is the nature of the characteristics of the grasper and the grasped? One should not argue about these three, which are distinguished by the mind of the consciousness proponents. If it is said that if non-existent things appear, then why doesn't a rabbit's horn appear? This is not so, because the power to generate consciousness that approximates the appearance of a non-existent rabbit's horn does not exist in the nature of ignorance. But the power to show blue and so on exists, so it is not too extreme, and there is no fault. This is also explained for the purpose of establishing the result of valid cognition. When there is no external object, then other than consciousness, there is no knowing of knowing, and only the self-nature is to be known, and that knowing, self-knowing, becomes the result. The explanation of this is: The consciousness proponents think that even if it does not exist, it approximates the appearance of the grasper and the grasped. Because it is obscured by ignorance, it can also approximate the appearance of non-existent forms, and although it is not the grasper of that form itself, it appears as the grasper. For those who arise, because there is no other knowable, the self-nature that approximates the appearance of the inverted nature is to be known. That knowing is the result. I know the external object, it is certain, but it is not said that I know myself, is it not? Knowing is also called the result in reliance on certainty, but it is not the result itself. If you say so, it is true, but because the self is determined to be known as an object, it is not said that self-knowing is the result, but whatever is the understanding of meaning, that is the nature of self-knowing.
