The object is not a single entity. If, due to being particularly attached to something, one considers the object to be singular, then this (object) also possesses singularity because of being particularly attached to something. In response to this doubt, (the answer is) because things that appear as common and uncommon, capable and incapable of fulfilling a function, are shown to be distinct, therefore they are their own characteristics. That is to say, whatever is the nature of an uncommon thing, that is its own characteristic. Whatever nature represents itself, that is its own characteristic. The nature of a thing is represented by the nature of being able to fulfill a function, therefore it is called its own characteristic. That itself is the nature of a truly existent entity. Therefore, the meaning is this: these appearing things are distinguished by being able and unable to fulfill a function, and not merely by being common and uncommon themselves. That which appears as a common object is an object devoid of the ability to fulfill a function, while the other is the opposite of that. Therefore, they are not a single object, and the reason they are not single is limited to this. Things that appear as clear and unclear are a single object, because there is no difference in the ability to fulfill a function. Therefore, that object is not an appearance, because it is not a mistaken appearance as the nature of that object, so it exists as manifest. In order to show that hidden things are also understood in the same way, (the text) says, "Another explanation is." This is like, for the time being, what is manifest is manifest, and what is separate from its nature is hidden. Therefore, hidden things are considered to exist due to abandoning the manifest. Manifest and non-manifest, even if it is this same thing, are dependent on the same knower, therefore it is not confusion. The other (hidden thing) should also not be known, because through the door of generating manifest knowledge, it is given its own essence, but it does not have the ability to abandon, therefore, it is unreasonable to recognize its own essence. If the hidden thing is experienced

Even if it is allowed not to be so, if one sees others, will one also understand what is unseen? If one sees others, it is unreasonable to understand what others have not seen. Why? Because it would be too extreme. Because seeing a little, it becomes necessary to examine all that is seen, which would be too extreme. If one sees others, it is unreasonable to examine what is hidden. Then, inference would not become a valid cognition either, because it is also the nature of understanding what is hidden. If there is doubt about this, then it is said "that" etc. If the other thing seen is something that does not arise without it, or something that is not deceptive, then it should be understood that the hidden meaning to be understood at the moment is related. Therefore, from seeing something that does not deceive the hidden meaning to be understood, it is reasonable to understand. To show this difference, "also" is said. If it is said that even from seeing something that does not arise without it, one cannot understand the hidden meaning, because all these things are the result of other things, and if something is not established as cause and effect, then there will be no understanding of the hidden meaning, then "that" etc. is said. Because the other thing seen, the way it functions, such as cooking and burning, has already established a relationship. The way it is completely established, just like seeing in the example, no matter in which direction the other thing is seen, it will be understood that that direction is close, it is understanding, not seeing one's own essence. In this way, the three modes are also shown, that is, the thing that has become a sign, wherever it is seen, and is measured by valid cognition, it should be understood that the meaning to be proven is close, that itself is their dharma. By saying "established", the nature of subsequent and reverse, which is a necessary relationship, is also expressed. Therefore, what does not arise without it, like a lamp etc., does not understand through its own essence, but by determining what does not arise without it, it is stated as a part of proving it, just like seeing in the example.
