Just as encounter depends on ascertaining meaning to realize, appearance does not depend on ascertaining meaning to realize. However, it makes what appears as blue be considered blue itself. Determining what appears as blue is itself the distinction of things. Therefore, the cause of distinction is appearance itself. Encounter is not acknowledged by the other party as a valid means of distinction by virtue of knowing itself definitively, but merely because it is the cause of knowledge. Even though all selves are close, only some dharmas are realized, because they depend on other causes. Only similarity depends on definite conditions to be the cause of distinction, therefore, only it should be considered valid. Thus, for those who assert the existence of external objects, cognition similar to things is valid, and distinguishing in the manner of realizing the nature of things is the result, thus, after distinguishing the valid means and its result, in order to negate it, and in order to distinguish in another way for those who assert that cognition is the result of valid means, the question is initiated. Then, what is called "from then on" means immediately after, immediately after distinguishing the result of valid means, this doubt arises: you who desire the result of valid means, what is that external, cognition of things? What is its essence? Is this its essence, just as it is being experienced? Experience is not an illusion, but another's own nature. On the other hand, it is inappropriate to ask about the nature of the cognition that will be experienced, because this is asking about the valid means in the manner of its own nature. Therefore, thinking that this is asking about the valid means, it is said: this is the manifest, the cognition that is established manifestly. This is to say, what we distinguish as the result of valid means, this experience, is established by manifest valid means, therefore, what is the use of asking about the valid means for it? On the other hand, since the existence of things themselves is preceded by valid means, if one asks about its valid means, then one is asking about existence itself, and when the manifest thing is indicated by "this," then it is unreasonable to ask about something that already exists. Therefore, it is not the object of valid means, but distinction

Saying that it has a special object, this is the obvious experience. Asking what measure you have is not, but asking about the particularity of the aspect related to meaning. If you don't understand it, ask more clearly. By what reason is this experienced reason determined that the different thing is knowledge? The other party replied, because it is similar to arising. Also because it is similar to arising. Worldly people do not think that this consciousness arises from blue things, therefore, arising is not the reason for the term, but the reason is similarity. Because experiencing consciousness in a similar way, experiencing things is determined as experience, therefore similarity is the reason for the term. Saying that it is similar to arising, without distinction, this shows that both are components of the term. In order to determine how these approach the term, and how they are needed, these are said. From similarity, the term is established, and similarity also comes from arising. Now, in order to show that the reason for determination is very common, it is said "then". The so-called same object, if the later consciousness clings to blue, and the previous consciousness is also, then this fault will occur. The thing immediately following, the thing that directly produces is the object, which indicates direct production. Like this, for the time being, the previous consciousness clinging to blue appears as blue, the second similar thing, the thing produced by the immediately following cause, also only appears as blue because it clings to blue things. Then, does the similar thing that produces, the blue appearance of the immediately following consciousness, is the object? Or, is it the blue thing, or neither? It is impossible to know. Examining in the object itself, consciousness itself is reasonable, because that is the component immediately following, and experiencing in a similar way. Things are not, because simply because it has not been seen, so the similarity has not been seen.
