Therefore. The one who follows is shown below. The audibility itself is also not established as being either permanent or impermanent, so it is not a unique characteristic of the direction, and if it is said to become a contradictory sign, the Vaibhashika says that the inaudibility is not like that. Because it is contrary to both, it is also contrary to the similar side. The contradiction is not seen here. Life and so on are not like that. Such a contradictory aspect is what is said to be uniquely contradictory to the dissimilar side. If it is said that there is definitely no self in the selflessness, then in terms of meaning, it is mixed with the non-different self, so it is said that life and so on enter into the self. In this way, if it only enters into the self, it will not arise without it. Since the following of that is established, life and so on are not only two contradictions. Therefore, because it is not seen, the contradiction is not established, and there is no contradiction for those who do not follow the difference between life and so on, or self or non-self. If the contradiction is not established because it is not seen, then how did the teacher Dignāga say that audibility is contradictory? The teacher said, and so on. Only that much means only not seeing. Otherwise, if the contradiction is only because it is not seen, then the teacher said that audibility is the cause of doubt, which seems to be a reason but is not. In this way, the cause is audible, and whatever does not arise in the permanent, focusing on the sound, it is not reasonable to doubt the permanence of the sound. In this way, smoke that does not arise in the absence of fire, focusing on the direction, it is not reasonable to doubt the absence of fire. Because there is no life and so on, the non-self is pervasive in dead bodies and vases and so on, just as the absence of smoke is pervasive in the absence of fire.

If there were self, then whatever should pervade would also disappear when there is no self, therefore some think that self exists in the body of a living being. The answer is that unrelated things, such as life, etc., because there is no self, will not be closely connected, and without self, pervasiveness cannot be established, because there is no connection. The so-called "because its disappearance does not enter" means that the disappearance of self causes life not to enter. Reverse correlation means that the disappearance of close connection and the disappearance of connection are mutually pervasive. That extremely distant thing is self. The so-called "What is the non-self pervaded by the absence of life, etc.?" refers to giving an example of inconsistent objects of reverse pervasion. The so-called "If it is not seen in other things," means that if self is established merely because it is visible, then in other places also, because it is invisible, it will become non-self. If this is not the case, then that self does not exist in things like vases, because from any point of view, there is no difference in that it is merely invisible. The so-called "Because of not understanding the disappearance, therefore its" refers to that which does not understand from where the self disappears. The so-called "only in some visible places" refers only to some living bodies. Self is not like that, it is not recognized through the existence or non-existence of other things. If it says "If any," etc., it refers to the words of combination with reversibility. The so-called "There also" refers to that which proves that life, etc. will also disappear through the disappearance of self. The so-called "Because cause and effect are not entities" means that the cause of life, etc., which is different from self, cannot be established. This has been said in the second chapter, in the classification of non-observation, in order to refute other meanings. The so-called "Saying because it is invisible" refers to what has just been said, like this, because any example with self is established through valid cognition. If it is admitted that self is visible in some places, then merely visible on the similar side cannot establish concomitance, because reversibility has not been established. The so-called "From that kind of reversibility" refers to thinking that it does not exist merely because self is not seen in things like vases. The so-called "other capable cause" means that even if there is wisdom, etc., and the vase exists, life, etc. will not arise, if it can be inferred that because there is no other cause of wisdom, etc., life, etc. will disappear, then such a situation is impossible in things like vases. If
