In short, the words spoken by Master Dignāga are to show the connection, and only in the manner of scripture do they say that these are the knowers. For words that show the connection, such as the objects of cause and effect, etc., are spoken by those with reason. This is what is said in the question of the treatise on sound, but it is not its meaning, because the contents explained in the treatise on reason are essentially the nature of the cause, etc. Therefore, the meaning of the words of Master Dignāga should also be explained as the reason for establishing the connection. If it is not like that, then those that are considered reason can only be scripture. The statement "There are only three kinds of refuting reasons" is what Master Dignāga said. Non-realization refers to not seeing the result, etc. Realization refers to seeing the contradictory nature, etc. In the commentary on Valid Cognition Determining, the second chapter, the Inference for Oneself, is completed. If inference is the nature of knowledge, then how is sound said to be inference? Therefore, it is said that this is because the result is imputed from the cause. It is said that the reason for imputation is related to the cause. The necessity is to be able to specifically know the ability to generate inferential knowledge, because non-establishment and incomplete pervasion, etc., cannot be generated, and stating the proposition first cannot generate it either. The application and conclusion, etc., because they are the remainder of the words of ability, are not what establishes, so it is explained. Therefore, it should be understood that the statement of the expression that is free from faults such as non-establishment is valid cognition. The proponent and opponent, for things that are not seen from direct perception but seen from scripture, for example, some Samkhyas say that in order for other opponents to know that they are Buddhists, therefore the Samkhya proponent, even if he does not see his own sign, although it is not established for himself, is able to establish, such as happiness, etc. If arising from what has never existed is birth, then this is not established for the Samkhya itself, because they believe that things already exist, and only manifestation is birth. Existence completely becoming non-existence is impermanence.
