It has been explained. Even if it is not conventionally established by people, if sounds have no meaning, they will not arise, so there is no situation like being confused by a meaning other than one's own. Now, in order to examine whether sounds and meanings are all considered to be inherently related, it is said, "The very existence of sound." If, because there is no meaning, sound does not arise, then does the very existence of sound relate to the distinctions of meaning? No, it does not. Because the very existence of sound is related to all meanings without distinction, it will not become expressive of the distinctions of meaning. If the debater says, "Just as the senses are related to objects, they are suitably related from beginningless time; similarly, sounds are related to meanings, they are suitably related from beginningless time." Because it is said like this. If it is said like the senses and objects, and so on. If asked, how do the senses arise from objects? The answer is, the senses that benefit from that object are the cause of generating their own knowledge, so they arise from such objects. If they did not arise from that, even if there were no other object, just as knowledge arises from one's own object, even if there were no one's own object, one's own knowledge would arise. If asked, why is one's own object beneficial? The answer is to show that one cannot deny direct perception. Therefore, it is said, "To this, the nature of things answers," and so on. Because that is not there, because the expresser is permanent, therefore there is no arising from meaning. Sound also cannot establish "this sound of this meaning," and meaning is not definite for sound. If it is said that because no name-sound arises from meaning, all sounds will not express meaning, the answer is that because of convention, that is, "this is this name" or "this is this sound" is conventionally established, so that sound is meaningful, just like the expression of the body, that is, like when I say, "When I raise my finger, know this meaning." The sound of "etc." refers to the king's mark and other marks. The time of convention is not from that meaning, it is predetermined. Or it is not from that, it is not from that which is intended to be expressed, that is, the sound that is not produced from what is intended to be expressed. It is not conventionally established by that.

The meaning of sound cannot be understood, because the sky and so on are produced by beings and so on. If the essence of sounds is not born from meaning, then it is not certain, but if it is said that it is understood as "this, this" from the power of generating knowledge, then, that power, if there is meaning, there is, if there is no meaning, there is not, the nature of these things is related to meaning. Otherwise, even if there is no meaning, there is power, then it cannot be related, therefore it will not abandon the nature of the result, the characteristics of other results such as Brahman and so on are also like this. The so-called "from that meaning" refers to the power other than sound. Because from that arises the understanding of meaning. The relationship between meaning and sound cannot be established either, because the power other than sound makes meaning understood. What is not related is not what makes it understood, therefore, in all times of all meanings, what makes it understood, becoming a definite nature, is what makes the object that produces the definite nature of its own cause appear, thereby making it understood. Just as a lamp is not produced from form and color, but can illuminate. If you ask, how does it not illuminate the nature of the ground? There is connection and no connection, seeing and not seeing, from memory, sounds and signs etc. use their own meaning to understand the object. The so-called "seeing many" refers to one sound seeing many meanings, such as the sound "Go". For that, one cannot only look at one meaning, one cannot understand. Again and again, even if other meanings are seen, those are also, after seeing other differences, that sound is used for other meanings again, that is reversed, the meaning of the sound will be the opposite of the previous one. Therefore, it is possible to hesitate like that about the meaning of the sound. If so, how does it enter multiple meanings? At the time of agreement, how the meaning that is seen is understood, seeing becomes other, that is, that sound is agreed upon for other meanings. In that way, that other meaning will also be grasped, therefore the sound has multiple meanings. That example is how to say "Kali" and so on. Because it enters relying on agreement, therefore it relies on seeing and not seeing the relationship of agreement.
