It is one. The consciousness associated with the gathering of consciousness and happiness, etc., is by one self. That consciousness should experience happiness, etc., but happiness itself does not experience it. It is said that "consciousness is not different from the cause," meaning that the cause of consciousness, the similar one, is the immediately preceding condition, the object, and the sense faculty. Why are happiness, etc., which arise from these alone, not consciousness? Because they arise from the gathering. Here, it means that the proximate cause and the cooperative cause are the same. If it is said that the proximate cause of firewood and its cooperative cause are one, but ash and smoke appear with different characteristics, so it is uncertain, there is no such fault. The proximate cause of smoke is the water element of firewood, and ash is the earth element. If it is said that firewood produces ash and the nature of wood that is not ash, so it also produces different kinds of fruits, then those that produce ash only produce ash, not wood. In general, from a similar gathering, it is inferred to be similar, but if it is one gathering, then the different is the meaning established by valid cognition. Therefore, from the gathering of a lamp, it is possible to produce the same kind as itself, as well as the burning of the heart essence, light, and the burning of fingers, etc., and the arising of eye consciousness, etc. Similarly, it is the same for others. Therefore, the similarity of the kind of gathering is the similarity of the cause. If from the similar gathering of causes, different kinds of fruits also change, then various differences will become causeless. If it is said that although the gathering is the same, due to the force of action, there will definitely be different consciousnesses of consciousness and non-consciousness, it is because the power of the force of action has not been seen by valid cognition. If it is said that the force of action is also the proximate cause, then it is seen that any consciousness with the distinction of habituation is the one with power. Therefore, it is said that happiness, etc., depend on the inner action. Because the inner consciousness is clear due to habituation, happiness, etc., are also clear, but to the foolish it appears as foolishness. If it is said that because the cause is without distinction, the result should also be the same.

If, because the cause is the same, then happiness and so on would also become one of happiness, suffering, or equanimity? No, because the internal differences of object and attention, etc., will become happiness and suffering, etc., but if it is not consciousness, then it is not. Even if it arises from the same collection, it is like the difference in consciousness due to internal differences leading to doubt and certainty, etc. Others, such as the Samkhya, Vaisheshika, and Buddhist views, are not internal, and like the Buddhists, they are not sentient either. So what is it? In order to show the Samkhya's own thought, it is said that the nature of happiness and so on is sound and so on. Their order of recitation is ear, skin, eye, tongue, nose, and because of this order, the object is also first mentioned as sound, and touch, etc., can also be understood. Therefore, happiness and so on are the nature of the object. Furthermore, Sentient beings are also knowable, Therefore, it is not reasonable that they are not self. The idea here is that fire burns firewood, but the part that does not enter into it will not burn, only the part that enters into the light of the fire will burn. Similarly, consciousness will only become consciousness if it becomes its own nature or the nature of consciousness. Therefore, whatever is self-aware is understood only by its own nature, while others are through the mode of appearance, so it is said that whatever does not truly experience the appearance of the object is that. This consciousness of the object is this. If arising from the object is the cause of experience, then it will also extend to the senses. Etc. refers to the similar one immediately following. The Samkhyas believe that the sentient being is the self, and that it is the unchanging self, so it can be known when similarity exists, otherwise it cannot be known, which is unreasonable, because there is no similarity before similarity, it disappears when similarity exists, and how does it disappear when similarity ceases afterwards? If there is similarity, it will become impermanent, and if there is no such similarity, it cannot be known. If it is thought that consciousness has no appearance, because it is awareness, it is understanding meaning, not because it has appearance, then it is said that there is only awareness.
