Now, to summarize, when something exists in a certain place, there is no other form that is certain to deviate from both properties of the object. Therefore, even if they are not seen, it is necessary that they definitely exist in one of them, and thus, it is said that this is the reason for doubt. If it is certain that it does not exist in itself, then how can the concomitance and separation be uncertain? It is said that because there is nothing that can definitely prove the existence of either of the two. Although it is generally certain that they exist in these things themselves, it is not certain that they accompany or separate from something merely by that. If a special proof that definitely exists in one is clearly shown, then the concomitance and separation will become certain. Because there is none, there is doubt. Just as the audible itself cannot be understood because it is not common, it has been said more than once. A man born from another man is a man, and what is not so is not born from another. The womb that is certain not to be born from another, for those men who have such equal qualities, have the same qualities, which are appearance, demeanor, the ability to impregnate a woman, and being desirous. From them, there is the womb of a woman, and in order to make other men understand that this womb is made by either of these two, it causes doubt. Like this, the mother is not made by another, and both of them have all the same qualities in terms of impregnation, so there is doubt. Therefore, by preventing birth from another place, these two wombs are definitely related to this, and because the qualities are the same, it is said that there is no certainty about either of the two. Therefore, in some things, there is also a connection with both, and there is no certainty about one of them, which is the cause of doubt, and not otherwise, so it is said. This meaning has been stated by the teacher, as it is said, the uncommonness of the subject of proof, with whatever differences, with whatever kinds of distinctions.

It encompasses all meanings, and it is the cause of doubt regarding the distinction of the aspect of gathering all. Why? Because it possesses it, that is, it is gathered by the distinction of gathering all, which is called the uncommon "certainty." Merely by what distinction all is gathered is not the cause of doubt, therefore the second reason is stated: it is called "sole certainty" because it undoubtedly eliminates one, that is, because it does not exist. Explaining the meaning of the previous reason: because it is gathered by possessing it, this explains that apart from the distinctions of various aspects, wherever the uncommon dharma of a thing exists, what is apart from the distinctions of the aspects of permanence and impermanence does not exist. If there were a third basis apart, doubt would not arise about the two aspects. Doubt focused on both parts is: if it is not impermanent, then it is undoubtedly permanent; and if it is not permanent, then undoubtedly this is impermanent, thus establishing the same meaning with certainty from the perspective of categories. Where there is no other category, but another category is not determined with certainty, that is not doubt, but rather it is not understanding. Therefore, it is said to be the third. By "how many distinctions" it is explained that the two aspects that exist by mutually excluding each other are the object of doubt. It is shown that merely abandoning one aspect, the second aspect can be certainly obtained, but if five or six aspects are completely grasped, then abandoning one of them, no second aspect can be certainly obtained, because the five aspects are applicable. Furthermore, in some cases of the dharma to be established, the uncommon reason that is stated, or another situation should be considered. For this, also, because it is the opposite of the dharma to be established, everything is the second aggregate. It can be thought that two aspects can encompass everything. In order to explain the second reason, it is said, "sole certainty eliminates." This explains that for one of the aggregates of permanence or impermanence, there is no valid cognition.
