If someone asks, is this for the sake of applying the function of reasoning? The answer is, because this function has the consequence of doubt, it is said to be a fault of the thesis. Because it does not necessarily arise from the words of the speaker, that word is not faulty. If a word does not necessarily generate certainty about its meaning, does that word become faulty? If doubt makes it not a thesis, then that is not the case. So how does a word become faulty? Whether it is what is to be proven or something else, whatever thing is to be proven, such as in establishing a thesis, how much and to what extent of the small part of the speech is to be proven? It is to be shown that it can be related to the meaning to be expressed by other parts, that is the meaning. Because that much word cannot prove that meaning, it is the fault of the speaker's word. What kind of meaning is the word of the thesis to prove? And how will it be proven? In order to rely on closeness (of example), therefore, it is said, "the word of the thesis." One's own thought means that because the object-possessing consciousness thinks, it shows the meaning of the object, that is the meaning of one's own thought. If the word of the thesis is to show that it exists, then it is not showing, because if the meaning of the thesis is unreasonable, like being harmed by a valid cognition (pramāṇa), then even if contradictory (attributes) are gathered on one subject (dharmin), it is impossible to exist. On a subject, it is impossible for two mutually contradictory meanings to exist. Therefore, the word of the thesis proves with an impossible meaning, so the word is faulty. If the speaker's fault is like that, then the nature of the thing itself does not give happiness, that itself is doubt about it, therefore, it contradicts what is to be proven itself, if asked like that. The answer is, inferring with other meanings, the fault and merit of the word are mainly done. Because it is examined according to the situation, the fault and merit of the sound are spoken in relation to the meaning to be expressed by the sound, not according to the meaning, because it is not what is to be expressed, only the meaning itself is not enough, that is the conclusion. If the meaning has no fault, but it is expressed in a reversed way, then the essence is fault.

Because it is tainted, it also becomes faulty. Because the reality of things is without fault, it is not faultless in this way. Why is it accepted as a fault of words? Because stating the meaning in a reversed way will cause criticism to the speaker, that is, it becomes a fault. For inference based on other meanings, it is the understanding of a person's courage, not just the thing itself. If a tainted statement is made, it will cause criticism to the person. Even so, it is not saying that inference is not a valid means of knowledge, and similarly, is it not stating the meaning of a single dharma that dharma does not transfer and give happiness? If asked how that is stating an impossible meaning, the answer is, in an implied way, when words are stated, just through the implication of the statement, it has already shown that if that is meaningless, it will not appear as the valid means of knowledge itself, which has been explained many times. Similarly, dharma does not give happiness, by making dharma the subject, it is wanting the treatise to be a valid means of knowledge, therefore, the implication of the sound of dharma also states that it gives happiness itself. Therefore, doubt does not make words become faulty, however, it comes from stating two contradictory dharmas that cannot be established for one thing. Therefore, this meaning of the promise becomes faulty because of the speaker's fault. If there is no difference between contradicting one's own words and promises just for the sake of creating obstacles, then there will be no difference in the object that contradicts the previously promised scripture. Because there is no difference in the object, it should not be separated, this is a fault. Some people explain the difference in the object, because without relying on some tenets, the tenet that does not allow examination of any subject is the reason why it will not appear if it does not exist. Therefore, it is only the thing to be done in the middle, therefore, the object of the obstacle of this tenet is that subject itself, and stating something that contradicts one's own words is possible in all cases. If the meaning of the words is not established, then what is done is considered a valid means of knowledge, because it comes from the occasion of the statement of the words themselves, therefore, with that harming what is to be stated
