It is also the same, therefore, where there is contradiction with the treatise, it will also hinder. If it is said that it is not harming, then, in order to dispel it, it is said "with a basis." If the basis of the things of special qualities is one thing, then they will hinder each other, because it will be said that it depends on the Dharma. For example, a thing established by experience, in the case of expressing it with one word, relying on the word is valid, and saying that the subsequent inference is not valid, what is to be expressed is not valid. The mutual hindrance of these two non-validities depends on the Dharma, or just as a woman who is established by direct perception can give birth, and other Dharmas hinder each other depends on the Dharma. The establishment of a thing must have any Dharma, and two contradictions will not exist on one, therefore one acceptance will hinder two, therefore hindrance depends on the Dharma. In any reasoning, if the thing itself is not established, then for what? On what basis, what Dharma that is promised will be hindered by what other Dharma? If the hinderer has no basis, then there is no occasion for hindrance. Because if the thing is not established, there is no hindrance, therefore promising the Dharma that is the basis of hindrance is promising that the thing exists, and in order to establish the thing, the treatise is also taken as valid. Because it is admitted that the meaning of the characteristics of the Dharma spoken from there exists, it is admitting that the meaning of the treatise does not exist will not produce the result, therefore because it is valid, it will harm what cannot establish the truth. That is to make the treatise the same as one's own words, so the sentence is made saying that if the treatise is not valid. The treatise is not valid, if it is not valid, how will it be recognized that the thing exists? Because it is admitted that the non-existence of validity will not produce the result. If that is the case, then one's own promise itself is to establish the existence of the thing.

It is not a treatise, but rather something that serves as a basis. Why is that? Because it is done as a means of valid cognition (pramāṇa). Since the treatise is acknowledged as a means of valid cognition, it itself is established as a dharma. Other dharmas are also established by being means of valid cognition, and they are also refuted later. Therefore, there is no difference from contradicting one's own words. Just as contradicting one's own words is done by an accepted means of valid cognition, contradicting the treatise is also no different. Therefore, just as contradicting one's own words creates an obstacle, so does contradicting the treatise, and those of equal strength do not cause harm. If both create obstacles but do not cause harm, then what is the difference between them? Since both create obstacles, there is no difference. Who would say that these have a difference? If there is no difference, then how is one's own word separated from the treatise? Through the distinction of speech, it will be expressed separately in that way. What is said, that different words contradict the treatise, and the same word contradicts one's own words, is that when the meaning established by the previous word is refuted by the meaning of the later word, then it contradicts the commitment. For example, saying "My mother is a barren woman" is the previous characteristic being destroyed by the word of the later basis. This kind of form is indeed a contradiction of the commitment. Therefore, the teacher also said "with the previously committed," and spoke the word "previous." Even if there is no distinction in speech, but merely by the word of expression eliminating its own meaning, it is a contradiction of one's own words. For example, saying "inference is not a means of valid cognition." When that word is spoken, it implicitly shows that one does not misunderstand one's own meaning. Like that, the speaker's pride considers inference to be a means of valid cognition. Therefore, by acknowledging as a means of valid cognition that which comes from the force of expression, it contradicts one's own statement that it is not a means of valid cognition. Is the object not a means of valid cognition because it is the result of wanting to express the word? How does it create an obstacle? It is true, but the expression of
