The desire to prove "existence" should be inferred from the result. Through context, the object of desire known from the result should be completely determined. Because there is a dispute over that object, it should be understood through the context itself. For example, in the context of the cold one proving the self, when the prover is presented, it is like understanding that the object of desire is "the meaning of the self should be proven." The desire that is separate from the context, its opposite knowledge will become clear through wisdom. Desire is not a self-aware manifestation. Therefore, because it is certain that other experiences themselves must be understood by self-awareness, what is not determined by experience is the object negated by the opposite experience. Because there is no reason, insisting on proving "existence" is understanding that it contradicts manifestation. In order to show this through these verses, an explanation is given: In cases such as admitting that sound is permanent, desire arises. And, setting that object as a desire with a special object is also achieved through the context itself that is close to the prover as a result. If, for something, even if there is no context of desire, but still forcibly say "you are like desiring this," then at this time, this speculation lacking reason and unreason, and the harm of reason, will become like the behavior of Ishvara. The reason for completely determining the object is that the approach of the prover related to the context is a sign of the result. Conversely, expressing a desire that does not match the context will be harmed by the illusion caused by manifestation, because it is not established through manifestation, so it will harm it. Therefore, merely through one aspect of the general, it is not possible to prove that the opponent desires to take the non-contextual dharma as the thing to be proven itself. Therefore, negating the qualities of earth through smell will also produce contradictions. If someone thinks that even if the qualities of space are not context-related, but if it harms it, it will harm the object to be proven, therefore the thing to be proven is established simultaneously with its establishment.

Therefore, if it is thought that this is to be proven, then it is said, "If it does not exist, it will not arise, this is unreasonable." The sound, which has the characteristic of being completely excluded by auditory consciousness, and the dharma to be proven—destruction, are not related to the qualities of space itself. Therefore, if the qualities of space itself, which do not arise if they do not exist, cause harm to it, what harm can it cause to other impermanence itself? And what will not be established? Any dharma that does not arise if it does not exist, such as momentariness itself, is similar to selflessness. If I become permanent, then momentariness itself will not exist in all things, therefore, if selflessness is not established, momentariness itself will not be established. The qualities of space itself are not such that they do not arise if they do not exist. If someone thinks that the reason that is not harmed by the scriptures is that it can understand what is to be proven, but here, because it is harmed by the scriptures, it becomes a flawed reason, therefore, impermanence itself cannot be understood, so not understanding itself is its harm. The answer is, it has been said. What has been said? "In its own sphere of activity, inference does not need to rely on the scriptures," this sentence is saying that the object of inference is not scriptural measure. Because the third mode is established by measure, the sign that enters by the power of things enters its own object, but for the scriptures, nothing else is needed. Therefore, because it does not rely on the scriptures, even if it contradicts the scriptures, whatever it establishes is well established, and harm does not exist for it. Although the word "if" is to introduce the following chapter, it should also be considered here: If it does not need to rely on its treatises, will its debate be abandoned? It will not be abandoned, because there is no commitment at the time of inference that enters by the power of things. If there is a commitment, it will be abandoned. At that time, there is no commitment to the treatises at all. If it is said for one's own purpose, even if the treatises are committed to, is there not also a desire to debate? Indeed. Although "at that time" refers to the time of inference, the commitment to the treatises is not the reason for abandoning it. If harm has been done, why will it not be abandoned? This is the method of commitment.
