If it were a subject, it would not be held as having certainty. Like this, since non-existence is not measurable, there is no distinction, therefore, whoever wants to establish as existence, non-existence, both, and neither, because he himself has no certainty, he cannot establish. Because in the absence of contradiction, without certainty, there is no cause to establish the establishment of certainty. When the non-existent thing itself is to be established, because it does not exist, the contradiction is not certain, not only is the establisher of the thing to be established uncertain, but also because it itself does not exist, the establisher is uncertain. If it is not established as existence, etc., there is no worldly expression. Like this, blue is existence, non-blue is non-existence, or neither exists. Similarly, this is, the other is not, thus, in the desired thing, it is established as existence, the other is established as non-existence, all those who establish names enter in this way. Therefore, it is called having the term of that and not that, which means speaking of having in having certainty. Because it does not show all the terms of existence, etc., therefore, in any way, it is through some means. If it is allowed to measure non-existence separately from things, it should also be said that through holding things, it is measurable. If it is not measurable, then the fault of not completely negating things without contradiction will occur. If it was not previously said that the very nature of having things as objects is valid cognition, how can non-existence be measurable? The answer is: because the very nature of having things as objects is not valid cognition. Why? Because the definition of valid cognition is the nature of obtaining the meaning of certainty. Even if there is no real meaning, what is to be obtained is the object of certainty, not the thing itself. Because non-deception is valid cognition, therefore, if direct perception and inference do not harm the self-object that has already been determined, then by knowing existence and non-existence, one can determine existence and non-existence. Without harm, therefore, this knowing is the nature of valid cognition, obtaining the meaning.

It is able to obtain meaning. It is able to obtain meaning because it possesses a harmless object, therefore it is a valid cognition. Obtaining something that does not exist is this, namely, when entering into the desired object, etc., the nature of being able to endure its function, obtaining something that does not exist. Therefore, that which has a non-existent object is also a valid cognition, so non-existence is measurable. If one also considers that which has a non-existent object as a valid cognition, then how is it said in the *Tarkikabindu* that the conceptualization that grasps the nature of imputation is not a valid cognition because it does not grasp the accomplishment of the function of things? And in the second chapter of the *Pramanavarttika*, it is said that all non-apprehensions are agents that show things capable of performing a function. How can these also be explained as being non-deceptive with regard to performing a function? One does not say that there is even a small amount of valid cognition for a mere thing, but rather, the valid cognition that grasps the thing itself is that which has a non-existent object, and these two have already completely determined the meaning there. It completely determines it, and it determines other meanings, and it also shows that there is no third way, because it is said that way. For that very reason, valid cognition is the result of things, so when obtaining the thing itself, because it obtains the determination of others, when the thing is determined, it is determined without error, and it is also a valid cognition for other determinations. That which is not a result, and that which becomes the fault of not being able to distinguish the attainment of the thing, is not the Svātantrika. Therefore, there is no fault even if that which has a non-existent object is a valid cognition. The logician also said: If all non-existence exists in some way, such as knowledge and measurability, etc., then nothing is non-existent in all ways. And nothing exists uniquely as the nature of all things. It does not exist as the nature of fire and water, if so, then in what way is the way of non-existence the non-existence of things? Therefore, the non-existence of things exists, and it is also measurable, so measurability itself is established as the dharma of both. Similarly, the self is not existent, because it is not apprehended, like a rabbit's horn.
