The eye's perception does not allow for the discernment of permanence or impermanence in sound. Therefore, a dharma belonging to one side is the cause for engaging in discernment. Since there is nothing that exists outside of the nature of the two, there is no turning back from those grounds of doubt. This concludes that because it is determined as two aspects, it is itself the cause of doubt. Whatever is determined as two aspects, that itself is the cause of doubt. Among them, the so-called "not following" is the conclusion of doubting following and not following. Because there is no cause established in either the nature of having self or not having self, there is no following. Because following itself is uncertain. If not following is certain, then it is unreasonable for following to be uncertain, this is what is to be shown. Therefore, doubt will arise about following. Therefore, because of doubting following and not following, and because the two aspects stated are certain, and because it is the nature of one side, it is uncertain. It is the cause of doubt, because from that reason, there is no certainty about what is to be proven or other things. Because of doubting following and not following in similar and dissimilar sides, therefore from this, wanting or not wanting is uncertain, therefore it is the cause of doubt. If that is the case, because the similar and dissimilar sides are not seen, will it become a branch of not understanding? If so, from having life and so on, it is also not not understanding. Why? Because it is related to something, because it is related to any particular of the object of doubt. Because all things are included by those two, and this is also the dharma of things. Even if it is related to any particular, but for the subject of dharma that is unrelated to dharma and subject of dharma, doubt does not arise from that dharma. For example, the eye's perception, even if it is related to either permanence or impermanence, but because it is unrelated to sound, it is not the cause of doubting it. From the dharma of life and so on, this subject of dharma is the dharma of having self and not having self.

Why not doubt which of the two it is related to? If asked why, for example, regarding a pregnancy that is completely unrelated to a man, from a woman who is recognized, there is doubt about being related to the distinction of a man, because it is impossible to conceive without a relationship. For any creature that is seen to be pregnant, but is not certain to be related to a man, the one who recognizes the relationship with the men of existence will generate doubt. Similarly, here too, since it is impossible for all things and those with self-nature, and those without self-nature, not to be included, because they are included, there is doubt about the nature of things, such as life, etc. If asked why not want to not understand, because what is called not understanding is, for both self-nature and no self-nature, there is understanding and doubt, since there is neither understanding nor doubt, then having the nature of neither understanding nor doubt, such not understanding is, if there is something outside of both self-nature and no self-nature, it will change. If all things are included in two distinctions, then how can it become not understanding, becoming an uncertain nature? Doubt is reasonable. Life, etc., will become either with self-nature or without self-nature, because there is no other way. If because everything is included, life, etc., is the cause of doubt. If so, since there is nothing beyond permanence and impermanence, would there also be doubt merely from what is seen by the eye? If it is thought that it is precisely because there is nothing beyond the two that it is called the cause of doubt. No, because there is no connection, it has already been said. Whatever does not go beyond the two is not the cause of doubt, however, for anything that has the nature of things, it is precisely because it does not go beyond the two that it is the cause of doubt. What is seen by the eye, although it does not go beyond the two, is not the cause of doubt because it is not related to sound. Because it does not go beyond the two distinctions, and follows and contradicts the distinctions
