There is no such commonality as that which pervades sentient beings. What is that like? It is seeing something that has died, characterized by being separated from the fruits of consciousness—breath, warmth, and movement. The so-called other sentient beings, upon seeing one death, will certainly determine that the death of another sentient being is this one. This is because things like breath, warmth, blood, and pus depend on consciousness, and when they cease, consciousness will also certainly cease. Therefore, the distinction of the nature that commonly pervades sentient beings is manifestly established. If this were established in trees and the like, then they would also be understood as having consciousness. If there were not a characteristic of dryness approximating trees and the like, would there not be? The answer is yes. However, if dryness and the like themselves were expressed with the qualifier of the sound of death, then, in that case, by what means would one ascertain this connection, so that consciousness is proven by death, it must be ascertained that it is connected with consciousness. Therefore, even for the reason that is approximated by a qualifier, only the sound is commonly established, but the meaning expressed by the sound of death, which is pervaded by the object to be proven, is not established. Similarly, what is approximated by the particularist is also said to be 'similarly' because it shows that the meaning pervaded by the object to be proven is not established. Shape, if one sees a shape that is preceded by intelligence, it follows after houses, fences, and the like. This shows the common essence of shape. So, what is the shape that is preceded by intelligence? It is said: Seeing a shape, even if one does not see the act of building houses and the like, but as long as one sees the act, one will have the thought of having been done. Here, this particularity of shape, which follows after houses and the like, even when seeing something that has been done, becomes the cause of generating the thought of having been done. Therefore, the commonality of such a shape, as the reason for determining what has been done, its manifest nature is widely known in the world as being preceded by intelligence. If bodies, actions, and places are all like that...

At that time, all such reasons as "because of the difference in shape" and "because of abiding and entering" will be understood as "just like that." Whatever shape is pervaded by pre-existing wisdom is not established in terms of body, action, and place. To express this meaning more completely, it is said in verse, "Furthermore." What are shapes and so on like? By saying "and so on," it includes abiding and entering, and so on. From such a follower who is established by the presence or absence of a blesser, inferring the pre-existing wisdom is the correct reasoning. The so-called "different things" means that because it is the cause of the wisdom of making, the shapes of houses and so on are other things, and because they are not the cause, the shapes of places and so on are also other things, which is established through direct perception. Therefore, the pre-existing wisdom that is completely established from the different things of the shapes of houses and so on cannot be inferred from the shape that is considered to be without difference simply because the name of the shape is the same. It is not reasonable to infer fire from any substance of gray smoke. It is not possible to infer only from gray matter, because the substance to be produced is certain. If it is said that the parts of the shape are common to the substances, then the answer is: If it is not admitted that this is the case, because the potter makes some changes in the form of clay such as pots, then the anthill will also be established as made by that potter. Whatever is a change in the form of clay is made by the potter, because there is no difference only in shape. If someone suspects that observing the difference in the argument for establishing the commonality is a fallacy similar to the result, then to show the object of the fallacy, it is said: The established follows, that is, because the established is pervasive, if it is established that the very act of the result is commonly established. The very act of making is a common establishment without relying on differences, just like sound. This is also because the established pervasiveness is established.
