Because it is the nature of being definitely without uncertainty. Because even without a determiner, what appears is the future. Therefore, understanding form etc. from taste etc., that is also a subsequent thought arising from the sign of the result. Inferring form etc. from appearance etc., saying that it arises from the sign of the result, this refers to ants moving and fish jumping, etc. Inferring rain etc. from other things is also said to arise from the sign of the result by inferring the cause. How is it? It is said that inferring rain from ants moving etc. is also due to some differences in the state of the elements, which are the cause of rain, ants moving, and fish jumping. Among them, when seeing fish jumping and ants stirring, and inferring the cause, it is inferring the past rain. Whether staying in a burrow or elsewhere, without seeing the rain, if one sees the special fish jumping and ants stirring, one also infers the present. Among them, ants moving means going with their eggs. Fish jumping means leaving the pond and going. The future ones are not inferred because of delusion. Inferring touch from form is born from the sign of the fruit. Why? It is said that form and so on depend on the four great elements. The meaning is that the aggregate with form and so on is the same, and they also exist without being different from the four great elements, so inferring touch from form is inferring the cause of experiencing together. Inferring form etc. from touch etc. is inferring the cause, and inferring touch from form etc. is inferring the cause itself, which is the difference. In the world, inferring the hidden from grasping what does not arise without being, and because form and taste etc. are also gathered in one aggregate, they must depend on one aggregate. So, because it is a cow, this lump of flesh has horns, what is this inference?

That is inference. Looking from the base of the wall, one sees one side of the mound, thereby understanding the unseen horned side. If it is said that the so-called cow itself is not merely the result or nature of the single aspect of having horns, nor is it a non-perception. The answer is: Regarding this, the cow, which is established as an aggregate, whatever can be called by the name of cow, its cause is the aggregate of limbs that have become one aspect. Why is it the cause? The answer is: If those limbs are missing, there will be no establishment of the aggregate. Therefore, from the result, the cow itself, one can infer the cause, the horned one. If it is said, how is the aggregate the cause of the established aggregate? Because mentioning the dewlap, mane, and horns, etc., the aggregate of those dewlap, tail, and hooves, etc., is called a cow. Therefore, this establishment of the aggregate as a cow is related to the parts of the aggregate, and because without the aggregate it will not arise. If for some who have following and reversal, they can clearly show their reason. Therefore, whatever understands the horned one from the cow itself is born from the sign of the result. Here, from the establishment as the cow itself, the non-confused seen part is mostly the subject, and the ability to establish the aggregate itself is its property. The one-sided horned one is its cause. From this, the entity of cause and effect itself is the defining characteristic, but it is not an entity. The limbs such as horns are called by the name of cow, and the ability to be called by the name of cow itself is the reason for the horns, etc. The seen subject and the horn to be proven are related because they depend on one aggregate. Regarding this, if one establishes that any appearing part can be called by the name of cow, then at that time it is the reason of nature. Whenever one sees the non-confused part that can be called by the name of cow, thereby understanding the unseen parts such as horns, then at that time it is the reason of the result. However, just as inferring touch from seeing form is real, so too, the cow's...

If one aspect that can be established in name is seen, why not infer the other parts that depend on a collection? If one does not infer because that part may be without horns, then one cannot infer from the cow itself at all. If it is said that even without horns, one would not mistake it as being unable to grow horns, because this is something that all parts possess, then, if that is the case, it is reasonable to infer horns from seeing other parts as well. If that is the case, then such a valid inference of a kind is established by the very arrangement of forms and so on. Inferring the cause from something that can be established in name is not a real entity, so it is a separate arrangement. It is to show that one should also follow this kind of approach. In order to show that it is undoubtedly included within any other inference that is spoken of, it is explained: The nature of water, which is unwavering, is the result of that basis, because it is manifestly established from the basis. Therefore, seeing stable, unwavering water, even without seeing its bottom, one infers that there is a basis, and that is also born from the sign of the result. If it is said that the continuous flow of water is not the basis because it is related to other causes, then the cause that arises in continuous relation is not the basis. However, it is the cause of the continuous, special nature. Such an unwavering nature is because it is established from that basis. Why? Because without experiencing benefit from that basis, it is not reasonable to obtain such a temporary particularity as unwavering from it. Therefore, by obtaining the benefit of the transformation of nature, the water is established from it. What should be said to those who acknowledge that the benefit is different from the water itself has already been said, because its connection cannot be established, and if other connections are acknowledged, it will become endless. Its unwavering state is the basis because it arises from the very act of benefiting, but it cannot be said to be the basis.
