Then, happiness and so on will also be harmed. Therefore, happiness and so on will disappear. If for the statement "happiness and so on by others," if the reason "instantaneous sound etc. not cause" is determined to be unnecessary to establish, then, just like permanent happiness etc., it is also to establish impermanent happiness etc. If contradiction becomes harm, then the reason is also not certain. Why? Because this reason is excessive, that is, the uncertain difference, wanting to hesitate in the dissimilar aspect. Why? Because of the dissimilar aspect, hesitating to retreat from the existence of impermanent nature. What is that like? Gradually stating, the nature of instantaneous non-cause, and the nature of impermanence, these two are without contradiction. Therefore, happiness and so on will also become instantaneous non-cause, and also not non-existent, then how will it harm the subject? The explanation of "gradually acting" is here. "Instantaneous non-cause" means, not gradually acting, this is a statement of prohibition. Having prohibited it, then whatever is gradually acting, that is, the subject happiness and so on, not generating previously non-existent ability by others, establishing with the nature of permanent non-existence, is the reason. If one doubts whether this reason, like permanent non-existence, also understands impermanent non-existence? Because of "gradually acting." Therefore, there is no contradiction. Merely gradually acting, it does not understand impermanent non-existence. Therefore, how will it harm the subject happiness and so on? Even so, how will it not harm the dharma? Therefore, it said "to that." Therefore, which subject does it harm? For that which becomes an obstacle to the present dharma, that is the fault, in order to show this meaning, it spoke of its own subject, the conclusion is "therefore." If one wants to know whether this has a defined teaching? It said "only is teaching," that is "because of what," because of what one's own desired dharma.

Because it is said that 'it should be established,' if it harms the basis of what is to be established, then there will be a fault at that time. If it is only the basis of a dharma that is not to be established, or if it harms the basis of another dharma, then there is no fault at that time, this is what is to be explained. How do we know this? From the word 'only.' If you want to know how there will be a fault, then say 'therefore.' It has already been explained, but in order to eliminate wrong understanding, it is explained with the words of one's own subject, this is the meaning of 'therefore,' that is, because it has already been explained. Other subjects refer to the qualities of space, and so on. With the words that are intended to be expressed, because it harms the unrelated dharma, it is not harm, although it has already been explained, but in order to eliminate wrong understanding, it is explained with one's own words in that way. Although it has already been explained that harming other subjects with the words of characteristics is not harm, but in order to eliminate wrong understanding, it is explained with the words of one's own subject. Precisely for this reason, if it harms the subject that is needed for the dharma to be established, there will be a fault. This is what Acharya Dignāga said. What did he say? He said 'if.' The 'that' in it refers to the subject. 'Other' refers to harm. 'That' refers to because of pervasion and non-pervasion. 'Precisely for this reason' refers to because it is not established on sound. 'If other' refers to if it is established on sound. 'Conversely' refers to because impermanence is established, so the special meaning, impermanence is not established. 'Ignorance' refers to the Samkhya school. Or, if permanence itself is established by valid cognition, then at that time, like a similar example that is harmed by valid cognition, because the difference is not completely established, so this similar example will not become other, this is what is said. That is 'if.' 'Precisely that' refers to the example itself. 'Refuting the third similar example' is 'both.' 'Or' and so on are arguments. 'Answer' is 'now.' Why? 'Because of what.' 'Like that' is
