Since the established itself causes faults, that side is not to be proven. Therefore, the dharma to be proven, which is the characteristic of the established subject of dharma, is the subject, and the general characteristic of the unestablished dharma and subject of dharma is the apparent subject. It should not be said by others that even the unestablished general characteristic is the subject, because it is. Therefore, the unestablished characteristic, etc., are faults of the reason, not faults of the subject. Therefore, it is said that the unestablished general characteristic is also the subject. Therefore, it is said that it does not depend on the reason. The fault that depends on the latter member is related to the suchness of the latter member and follows it, but not to the former member that has become the subject. Therefore, it is said to be for the sake of explanation. If it is said that sound is not to be heard, etc., the four examples illustrate the harm of the reversed nature of the dharma, but not the harm of the characteristic of the subject of dharma, the characteristic of the dharma, or the nature of the subject of dharma. The word 'characteristic' in 'characteristic of dharma and subject of dharma' is combined with both. 'Being a part of what is to be proven' means that if what is to be proven does not exist, it becomes non-existent, which is the wisdom of Ishvara. 'Realizing within what is to be proven' means making an explanation. It will also be explained that what is to be proven itself is without distinction. This example itself, such as 'sound is not to be heard,' etc., is an example. 'All of its own nature and characteristics' means the subject of dharma's own nature and its characteristics, as well as the characteristics of the dharma and the characteristics of both. 'Because there is no distinction in what is to be proven itself' negates this being a part of what is to be proven. Then, will examples of all harms to one's own nature and characteristics be shown? To that, it is said. Since there is no need, it should not be shown, which is said to be 'thus.' If it is necessary to fully understand, it is called an example. Its subject of dharma.

The term 'having' refers to the three aspects of the subject of the proposition (chos can), such as its own nature, in which the dharma to be established exists. If the meaning of 'dharma' and so on is this: if it is a distinction, then it is not to be established, because there is no concomitance. If it is to be established, then it is not a distinction, because there is concomitance. 'In that dharma' means in the category of the nature of the dharma to be established. 'That' is the answer to the debate. What is said is that it is the general characteristic of merely other, so in relation to that, it is a distinction. In relation to its own nature, it is the general characteristic itself. In the existing general characteristic, the nature of a cow is a distinction, but the nature of the general characteristic does not disappear; it disappears. If it is said that only what is said is to be established, and not something else, is that not the case? If so, how can it be the nature of a general characteristic, and even if it harms it, how can it harm the thesis? What is to be established is that itself, the very nature of the distinction. Otherwise, the distinction is not to be established. This explains that even the distinction between the subject of the proposition and the dharma itself is to be established. 'In that' refers to the third kind of harm, and so on. 'Merely the thesis' is used as an example of the distinction of the dharma, in order to approximately indicate the other. Therefore, the stated example is for the purpose of showing the remaining two examples. The example of the distinction of the dharma that was spoken is 'having meaning'. There is a possessor of limbs other than the limbs, so otherness itself is the dharma. Its distinction is having function, etc., because it has the characteristics of a substance, so it is the heaviness of qualities, and it is the cause of the collection that goes under function. It is said like this: if only the existence of a possessor of limbs other than the limbs is established, then at that time it will become established for the Buddhists, because the Buddhists also accept the imputed limbs. Therefore, merely other is not to be established, but rather other with a distinction is to be established. That distinction has already been shown. When one has sense faculties, it shows seeing.
