What is to be said, such as, should be examined in detail by oneself. As for refutation, in the case of things that should not be done, both done and not done, there are various possibilities. Why? Because it proceeds according to desire, because there is no inconsistency in everything. Even without sound, it is acceptable, because that is its object, that is its meaning. 'Done' means worldly people; 'not done' means non-worldly people, that is, not done by humans, this is Jayanta's explanation. 'Conventional terms and others' is the explanation of the commentators. If it is said that the transformations by discrimination are not the nature of things, then it is said that everything is by nature. The aspect is also the thing itself, not an intermediate one, because one is particularly attached and proceeds by making the aspect and the thing one. Therefore, among worldly people and mantra practitioners, etc., the fact that sounds enter into definite meanings is itself prevented by reason from all that has changed from human intelligence, what is said is, therefore, etc. Arising by reason and what has arisen is also from the sound changing in that way, not from itself, because that is the nature of things. Reason cannot prevent eating dog meat, etc., this is the connection. Why is that? It is said that it is only the thing, because it is only the object and related to it. How is it only the thing and related to it? It is also in that thing, that is, also in eating dog meat, etc. What is seen is the measure. What is understood by indication is established from the scriptures. Why does direct perception not harm it? It is said that it is reasonable. That is also inference. Therefore, it will be shown there. If, etc., this is entering into the Pramāṇavārttika. Or, the thing itself that is said by the sound of desire is reasonable, therefore, what it harms is harmed by reason, thus welcoming the doubt, it is said desire. Then, is it famous as reasonable? It is said like that, that is, reasonable. Why? It is said that it is reasonable. Similarly, reason is what is said by the sound of desire.

It should be understood that it is the cause of expression, but it is not expressed by the word of intention. Depending on the various expressions, whatever is suitable, by the power of that, in reality, sound is universally related to all things. However, is it not the case that because of relying on suitability, there is no understanding that the words of Master Dignāga are expressive? If you want to ask why it is said that way, the answer is that because it is actually related, in that suitability, even if the words of Master Dignāga are not understood as expressive, but depending on the various expressible suitability, that is established. The teacher is ridiculed with words such as "fame arising from sound." Or, if from the terminology of the elders, for things that are manifestly established in a definite way, if sounds are not definite in meaning, then how can inference cause harm? The answer is that it is said by the power of that suitability itself. Just as it has already entered, because it arises from the power of suitability, other sounds have also already changed. However, because the speaker has no intention, it has not entered. Things are related. Therefore, even if the sound that will appear in that suitability is not understood, it is established. Because that which is to be understood has been established, that which is to be expressed by the word of intention has been established, that is the meaning. If it is thought that the meaning to be expressed by sound is definite, is it not the case that it is not everything? The answer is that sound is said in this way. That refers to entering merely by intention. If you want to ask how it enters by intention, the answer is that things are said in this way. Therefore, in some respects, it is thought that the suitability that is the object of discrimination as the aspect of things is not the thing itself. If you want to ask, how is that said to be suitability? The answer is that the expansion without contradiction is said in this way. If it is thought that sound enters merely by intention. If you want to ask how it is subsequently related, the answer is that merely by intention, that is to say, with this to express, discrimination also changes merely by intention, it is not determined by things. If it is thought that even without meaning, it changes by intention.
