It is called this. The opponent is the Samkhya school. Its meaning is the meaning of self. The so-called "not established" is not to establish the meaning of self, but to establish the meaning of others. Therefore, even if the self is not established in the example, there is no fault, if others think so. The answer is "then". The difference in the meaning of others, the self will become the characteristic of meaning. The so-called "self" is an explanation. If it is not to establish the meaning of self, but only to establish the meaning of others, then the characteristic difference of the meaning of self will become the difference of only the meaning of others. Therefore, the reason "because it is a collection" will contradict the difference, because it is to establish the opposite of the meaning of others that are not a collection. Is it to establish the meaning of self? Or only the meaning of others? In the first case, there is no place to go. In the second case, it contradicts the difference. Merely stating what is to be established is a general statement. Even so, because it only establishes the meaning of others, even if it does not state the meaning of others that are not a collection, it wants to establish it, so the Samkhya school's before and after are contradictory. The so-called "the very thing to be established" means that the venerable Dignāga wants to establish it, so he did not state the place and action. Not relying on other schools, but only abiding in one's own school, how can one not establish the very thing to be established? What is the use of stating what is inappropriate, because it is to establish the opposite of the difference of dharma, so saying "it is contradictory" etc.? The so-called "not preventing". It is relative to others, that is, the Samkhya school. The Samkhya school is committed to only stating what is to be established, but also to establish what is not stated. Therefore, it is only by relying on their thoughts that faults are pointed out. Merely through the thought of answering by relying on others to establish the exclusion of others, even if one does not state one's own school, one wants to establish it, what is the use of making efforts to establish the establisher for the sake of establishing such a nature? In order to enter the Pramāṇavārttika, it is now necessary to determine the basis of this occasion.

It is called "is." If what is to be proven is not shown, then what should be done now? If asked. Then what should be proven? It is called "because it is a statement." If it is not so, then is it necessary to prove what is unstated? To clarify this, it is called "unstated." If one thinks that everything needs to be proven, then what is the problem? It is called "all." This indicates that the example states that the part to be proven is incomplete. If so, it will also become a flaw in the reason, saying that it is called "if it is so." If asked what to say, is it self or other? This is asked. The Samkhya school considers only the benefit of others. Here it refers to the words of proof. This, called "this," is the characteristic of self-interest. Those noble ones, namely the wise who abide in the ways of conduct, what is their ultimate goal? They examine sounds to what extent, and then engage in determining the meaning of language, and not otherwise. If asked what they engage in in this way, then in the context of the wise, by dispelling doubts about the meaning of language, the first half of the Commentary on Valid Cognition is explained, called "eyes, etc." The latter half is explained, called "because of that itself." There, namely in consideration of self-interest. That, called "that," is self-interest. If it is said that this refutation is not the scholar's intention, then it is called "scholar." If asked why, it means that it is neither contextually relevant nor needs to be proven. "Other" means that if it is not a collection of proofs established through debate, then that other's benefit is not what needs to be proven, then at that time it will contradict what is not desired, because the collection is for proving the benefit of others. If, fearing this fault, one only proves doing the benefit of others, then at that time it will become fruitless, because it is proving what is already established. There is no dispute between the debater and the refuter for the mere benefit of others. If that is what needs to be proven, then at that time it will become what the debater does not desire, and for the refuter, it will become fruitless, because it is proving what is already established, this is Jayanta's explanation.
