So, what is the non-apprehension that serves to establish terms? That is "that." From another perspective, it depends on ignorance. Then, how can it be said that this is non-apprehension? This is "this." In reality, this is not a negation of non-existence. Why? Because "that" and "this" refer to the fact that there is no difference between knowledge and things. The so-called "that" is the absence of knowledge itself. If that is the case, even the Sautrāntikas clearly establish the non-existence of things, don't they? That is "when." The so-called "that" is the empty nature of non-apprehension. If this is the case, then the non-apprehension of self-nature will not become a proof of the non-existence of things. Why? Because on all bases of knowledge and knowable objects, manifestation itself will become a reasoning for the non-existence of observable things. If those non-existences that have become the characteristics of objects, which are observable, are established through manifestation, then, if it is the non-apprehension of pervasion, that is the time. The remaining detailed explanation is: "So." How can it be said that for the non-ignorant, it is the non-apprehension of pervasion, while for the ignorant, it is due to the non-apprehension of self-nature? This is the refutation: "If." The so-called "that" is the non-apprehension of pervasion itself. The so-called "other" is through the examination of the non-apprehension of appearance. The so-called "suddenly" is the ignorant recognition of smoke without effort to recall the connection, because the smoke itself is to be produced by fire. Moreover, ignorance is recognized from inferring its self-nature, while non-ignorance is from manifestation. Alternatively, connect "recognized from smoke." For example, just as the non-ignorant suddenly recognizes fire from smoke, similarly, the non-apprehension of self-nature, because it has become the self-nature of the non-apprehension of cause and distinction, will also prove the non-existence of things from non-ignorance. This is the meaning. Therefore, for it, that is to say, by showing the non-apprehension of cause and pervasion on one non-apprehension of self-nature, it is actually three. For example, the knowledge of a pot is the cause of the pot, because it is said to be the cause of arising and is accepted. Therefore,

Because there is no knowledge of the pot, there is no pot, which is because the cause is not seen. In the manner of saying, "Whatever can be seen exists," knowledge is pervasive. Therefore, because there is no knowledge that is pervasive, there is no knowable that is to be pervaded. Whenever the object of sight, which is the existence that can be seen, is pervasive, then not seeing the nature is also an exclusion. Therefore, not seeing the nature actually has three situations. If it is said that in one case the nature is not seen, and in another case it becomes not seeing the pervading cause, then for those who do not see the nature and the difference, the objects to be pervaded and the pervading cause are also not different. What shows this is "Furthermore." "Here" refers to the fact that for those who do not see the nature and the pervading cause, whether it is the object to be pervaded or the pervading cause, they are not truly different, because both have the same object to be pervaded and the object of difference. Why? Because "what can be seen" is to prove that in the absence of seeing the nature, what can be seen exists. The explanation is "what can be seen." "This" refers to the object to be pervaded and the pervading cause. How is it understood? "Its" refers to the fact that only through negation can it become the object to be pervaded and the pervading cause. Dharmottara and others believe that recognizing things by their own characteristics, if not seen, is like not seeing the nature. What shows this is "Whatever." The fruit of fire has no difference from the nature of fire. Why is there no difference? Because whatever fire is the cause is pervasive, and its fruit is not different from fire. For the cause of ability, the fruit is pervasive. Therefore, like nature, this is also not different. Because there is no difference, its own essence and pervasiveness do not exist, therefore, not seeing the fruit is called not seeing the nature. Therefore, classifying the fruit of not seeing the nature of smoke as not seeing the nature is a foolish explanation. What Dharmottara and other teachers experienced is this result.
