If the emptiness of things does not exist, then how can it be shown that there is no vase in a place as distinct? Therefore, it is said, "Therefore." "Thus" means distinct. "Showing" is the way of expressing, which is to say "vase." If emptiness itself has no other, then how can the object of focus be understood as non-object of focus? It is said, "Like this." If you think there is no object of focus, then this is the object to be refuted that manifestly abides in memory. "Place" means that experiencing the emptiness of a place itself is not focusing on anything else, but it is not that there is no consciousness at all. Then how can one focus on something else in the aspect of negating its essence? It is said, "Because of." "This" refers to the aspect of experiencing, and so on. "Other" refers to the nature of the vase and so on that abides in memory. Even if that nature is not focused on in that way, how is it empty because of that? It is said, "Focusing on one," and so on, here. What is it? It is "That," that is, the vase and so on. "This" refers to the place. The place is not focused on as the essence of the vase and so on, it is the emptiness of the vase and so on, that is the meaning. To dispel the doubt that others think there is no reversal, it is said, "If." Saying that there are no things such as vases in this place, thus it is established that there are no vases and so on. Conversely, "Conversely" means reversing from the absence of things, expressing the existence of places and so on with the words of the absence of things. How can it be established that the place and so on itself does not have the nature of a vase, thereby establishing that the absence of things is establishing something else? That is the meaning. The answer is, "This is if." When? It is said, "If." "This" refers to saying that the place does not have the nature of a vase. If the essence of things such as places has become other things, whether it is included or not included, therefore, the place itself should be established as having the nature of not having a vase. How can a thing become the nature of not having a thing? It is said, "Like this." "That" refers to the nature of the vase. "By this."
