The term "bya" is used in this way. However, terms such as "hönte" are used for debate. If doubt arises regarding the subject of the dharma (chos), whether sound (sgra) is permanent (rtag pa) or impermanent (mi rtag pa). From that, it comes from the object of measurement (gzhal bya) itself. The term "de" refers to the object of measurement itself. The term "gang la" refers to permanence itself, and so on. The term "de" refers to permanence itself, and so on, which is what is to be established. Why not proceed from the perspective of the concordant side (mthun pa'i phyogs)? The term "mthong ba la yang" means that the object of measurement itself is also visible in both the concordant and discordant sides. The term "de ni" refers to doubt. The term "gnyi ga la" refers to the concordant and discordant sides. If it is said that doubt is caused by doubting the contradictory (ldog pa) nature of audibility (mnyan par bya ba nyid), is this not unreasonable? Because the scholar Dignāga (phyogs kyi glang po) stated that this has contradiction, therefore it is certain to be a single contradiction, and thus it is said to be the cause of doubt. If that is the case, then it is also unreasonable to be the cause of doubt, because it is a single contradiction, so it will only become the cause of non-understanding. To dispel this doubt, it is said "gcig tu," meaning that doubt is caused by the single, definite contradiction, and not by doubting the contradiction itself. Why? Because there is the term "gcig tu." If it is thought that even if the contradiction is definite, doubt will arise, then "gang zhig" refers to audibility, and so on. The term "de nyid kyis" refers to the contradiction itself from the two aggregates (phung po). If someone says, who said this, did the scholar Dignāga say that this is a single, definite contradiction? Then, it is said in that way as well. The term "bsgrub par bya ba'i chos" refers to the subject of dharma, which is to be established, such as sound and so on. What is the dharma of the subject of dharma, such as sound and so on? The meaning of audibility and so on is the cause of doubt, thus connecting them. If asked, what is the cause of doubt about? The term "khyad par ci snyed kyis" refers to encompassing all things with the characteristics of permanence and impermanence, or self and no-self. Why? Because the term "de dang ldan pa" refers to encompassing the entire collection of meanings with the aspects of having permanence and impermanence, and also determining one from the two.

Because it is a matter of rejection. This encompasses everything with two aspects, and the rejection that is determined as one is also the cause of doubt, actually shown as the reason. This is appropriate as the reason for the cause of non-understanding itself. The so-called "that" is because of that reason. How can the audible itself, doubting this rejection itself, be the cause of doubt, because Brahmins and others say "not the only one"? "That is not" and so on are the established tenets. The meaning of "because of what" and so on is like this: From the two aggregates, if the audible itself is rejection, then, at that time, when seeing on the subject, it will be understood that those are non-existent. Even so, how can it become the cause of doubt or the cause of non-understanding? The so-called generation of understanding itself is not the cause of non-understanding. What is the audible itself? Whatever is determined to be rejected from both the permanent and the impermanent, because that exists on the other subject sound, therefore, for both the permanent and the impermanent, it will also be determined that there is no audible itself. Even if it is determined to be non-existent, there will be doubt about those. If the permanent and the impermanent are rejected, the audible itself, how can that sound doubt the two? Why? Because whatever is rejected from the permanent and the impermanent, etc., of the audible itself, the establishment of distinguishing the two from that is not other, however, it is the establishment of distinguishing those from that rejection itself. This itself is what is said, "what is it?". The so-called "everything" refers to the reason, smoke, etc., which is also the establishment of distinction, so it is the reason itself. That distinction between the permanent and the impermanent, that also exists in the audible itself, therefore, how can it not be a reason? Because it is a distinction, how to understand that it is the reason itself? The so-called "sound" and so on. The debate about the so-called reason, etc., the meaning is like this: Whatever is the determination of the establishment that precedes rejection, that alone is the reason, for example, when the made nature distinguishes the permanent dharma and establishes the impermanent dharma, it is like a reason.
