Because it is not the object of cause and effect. Self and life, etc., are not the object of cause and effect, therefore life, etc., are not the means of understanding self. It is of the school of Dignāga. The so-called 'contradictory' is life, etc. The conclusion is 'Thus, for the time being,' etc. Why? Because it is contradictory. Even so, why is it not a reason? It is also the very audibility. Even so, why is it uncertain? Like this. Then, why is it said to be contradictory? Just because it is not seen. If there is no other aggregate, then how is this to be established, and how is it the cause of doubt about other things? It is 'permanent,' etc., which is in relation to audibility itself. The so-called 'self' is in relation to having life, etc. If it is not so, it is some of the things and non-things, or it is not a thing at all. If even without other aggregates, why is this the cause of doubt? Because it is impossible in both aspects. It is 'from both aspects,' etc. Why? Because 'if.' If audibility itself is contrary to everything, then at that time it will be completely non-existent. Why? Because there is no basis. The basis is either permanent or impermanent, and that which is contrary to both is without basis. The so-called 'sound itself' means that if it is also contrary to permanent and impermanent, even so, will the third aggregate become sound itself? It is 'also for sound,' not just audibility. Why? That is also sound itself. Therefore, audibility itself is not the basis of the doubt of sound, it is not sound. This is what is to be expressed, like this. The so-called 'that' is sound. The so-called 'for those' is for permanent and impermanent. This is for sound. If it is certain that it is contrary to both, why is it the cause of doubt about these two? It is 'from that,' etc. It means that if it is certain that sound is contrary to everything, then at that time audibility will not cause doubt about it, but it will also cause doubt, because

Therefore, it is not necessarily the case that one must deviate from both. Therefore, it is not correct to say that for a sound that is not certain to deviate from both, because audibility exists, it will become a cause of doubt. The term 'others' refers to audibility, etc. If it is said that this is the point of contention, it is that only common uncertainty is uncertain, while uncommon uncertainty is not. 'Seeing' means that when both aspects, such as measurability, are seen, doubt arises from the perspective of establishment; but when both aspects, such as audibility, are not seen, doubt arises from the perspective of negation. The statement 'with things and without things' refers to establishment and negation as well. 'One's own side' means that the wise hold to their own side, and only the commonality of lineage is uncertain. You have no reason for this statement. The explanation is 'where,' etc. To dispel doubts about the uncommon uncertainty itself, it is said 'if.' It is also unreasonable for two contradictory things to both exist or not exist in one thing, because if one does not exist, one will not mistakenly believe that the other exists. Therefore, holding this in mind and answering, it is said, 'This is not good.' When one of the characteristics of the subject, sound, namely permanence, deviates, then certainly, impermanence, which is the opposite of the deviated permanence, will enter. Why? Because they are contradictory. Why do both deviate? Because they are mutual. Therefore, how does audibility itself cause its own basis to deviate? How? Here it is said that because sound deviates from both, permanence cannot be obtained by audibility. It deviates from both permanence and impermanence. For one, namely sound. Saying 'deviates' refers to audibility itself. Even if it is not a cause of doubt, because there is no other option, the cause of non-understanding remains. This is 'if that is so.' 'Then,' etc., are used to refute. 'That' refers to doubt. 'Reason' means that it is done with the reason of measurability. Others are also like that, namely from the perspective of being able to see both aspects. The answer is audible.
