It is the earth. The appearance with aspects such as blue should be established by the self-cognizant consciousness, that is the meaning. Only appearance means that which has not become cause and effect. If it is only so, can the expression not be established? If only the appearance of what is in front is clear, then what else is there to do besides that? There is nothing. Therefore, the expression cannot be established by mere appearance. What kind of expression cannot be established? "Other" means that which is not an actor. The so-called "other" means that which is not to be taken. Even if it is only appearance, why is there no expression of taking and discarding? Only appearance is to say that it is at that moment, not before, and not after, therefore it is not to be taken and discarded. It means that it is separated from distinguishing between meaningful and meaningless things. If so, it refers to when it is only appearance. Because there is no object of cause and effect in this way, it is therefore neither heterogeneous nor non-heterogeneous. The so-called "whose" refers to life and so on. That is the self. The so-called "from whom" refers to from life and so on. In order to prove the meaning that has been said, what was previously combined was the Pramāṇavārttika, and now it is to briefly summarize the meaning that has been said. Therefore, it is said "therefore." "That" refers to being incompatible with fire. "Therefore" means because it is the nature of both. "From that" means from Indra's garland. "This is the collection that is incompatible with fire." "Is it heterogeneous, or is it not heterogeneous?" It means that one nature is the heterogeneity of the fruit, therefore smoke and other fruits also arise from the heterogeneous cause. If that which is produced by the previously incompatible collection becomes the cause of production, then there is no other non-heterogeneous nature. If one now admits that it is heterogeneous and not heterogeneous, then the non-heterogeneous nature itself will disappear, and if things have a heterogeneous nature, then one also admits that one itself is many natures, then it will become two natures of fire and non-fire. Which one is the nature that cannot become heterogeneous, that itself...

It is like this. Whatever is different is not fire. Why? Because it is a thing. Because it is different. If it is said that since it arises from the sacrificial fire of Indra, how can it not be confused? That is to say. If that thing is the nature of fire, then it is not the sacrificial fire of Indra or other existences, because it is gathered in the fire itself. It means that its nature has no other. What is meant by "by what nature" is by the nature of non-fire. What is meant by "different" is that Indra is at the head from the fire. Then, it is merely not the producer of smoke. Therefore, what doubt is there that smoke is confused from fire? If it is said that the collection of fire, etc., is the producer of smoke, and its own nature of producing smoke, if it is considered a state of confusion, and others are also nature, then the collection of the state of confusion is also the collection of people, etc. What confusion is there then? If it is not the nature of producing smoke, then how can the fruit, smoke, etc., arise from that which is not the nature of producing smoke? What is meant by "therefore" is because it does not arise from the nature of that producer. Cause and effect are mutually determined by nature. Whatever produces smoke is the characteristic of the collection of people, etc. Whatever is produced by the collection of fire, etc., is smoke. Thus, their nature is determined. What is meant by "therefore" is that because nature is determined, it is like seeing oneself. For example, if the fruit smoke has become a fruit that one has seen, then, just as one recognizes the fruit, when one sees the sign of becoming a fruit, one can also understand its cause. Therefore, it is something that can be understood and something that can understand. Again, in order to eliminate the doubt of confusion about smoke, it is "then." Although one sees one result arising from one cause, one also sees it arising from a cause that is not of the same kind as it. For example, fruits, etc., whose color and taste, etc., change, the characteristic of decay that does not change like that, arises from milk. And, just as water, which is not of the same kind as milk, can also produce decay, so smoke also changes.
