Although thoroughly understanding it can make it clear, to prove that only impermanence exists, the explanation of the Pramāṇavārttika is the word "if." Only extract the word "at that time," and add "just made effort," meaning "it will become uncertain." Stating the uncertainty itself is the word "also before." The question is "through hearing." The word "other" is without hearing. The answer is "if." Therefore, it is in following. The opposite statement is the word "later." The question is "not." At that time, it is because there was no manifester before. If there was no manifester before, why doesn't the current manifester produce understanding? The word "the manifester is." The answer is "that is." If the manifester makes all the nature of the manifested clear, then where is the word "is"? The word "one's own nature is not reversed." If it exists at another time, then the word "time" is related. Why? "Unclear." If it is not so, then clarity also depends on the manifester. At that time also, that is, even at the time when there is a manifester. Therefore, later effort is not what was not understood before. To show that later knowledge is also unreasonable, it is stated: "the later" word. Why? "Likewise, that itself." Or, if it is not obvious because there was no effort before, then the word "previously occurred." For it, it refers to sound. Why? The word "the later itself," that is, the later effort. The question is "one's own." Later effort is to clarify the manifested object related to one's own time, not related to the previous time. The answer is "what," that is, apart from the previous effort, will others separately manifest other manifested objects related to the previous time? Because the efforts of the previous and later times are different, the manifested objects are different, no, because they are the same. Why? The word "before and after." In the previous and later times, the knowledge that grasps the manifested object

Is it one or many? Regarding this, if the earlier and later (cognitions) are one, then distinguishing different efforts will not be manifest, because it is impossible. If it is many, then it becomes different only because of being different, so what is the use of effort? Because it is meaningless. Saying this is "other cognitions," even if the cognitions are different. However, when? "When" refers to when there is obscuration, at that time, although there is something to be revealed, it cannot be observed. Why? Because it is obscured. If sound also changes in this way, is it possible to see it like that in some cases? The answer is, "It can be seen," which is "with a wall." Even if other people or walls, etc., are revealed. "Like that" refers to when the wall is obscuring. In reality, it is said, "For sound also." The explanation is, "Although there is." "The obscured self" means that if there is obscuration, then the very nature of what needs to be revealed will exist, but it is not a change of characteristics into another form. Why? Because of "direct perception." In the state of not being obscured, the nature of direct perception, that is, the state itself that has not been changed before, is observed. How can it be determined without examination? The answer is, "Like this." There, also, because of the obstruction by walls, etc., and from the subsequent inference of the nature of cognition, it is recognized that there is no change, and not from other aspects. From where is it recognized? "Like this, not observing also," even though it is not observed because of the obstruction by obscuration, how can it be recognized that there is no change in direct perception? It cannot be recognized. Why? Because "because," that is, because the object of observation has disappeared, so it is not proven that the nature of the obstruction exists. If being obscured is observed for other reasons, can it therefore prove that its own nature exists? The answer is, "other." Therefore, the absence of change can only be recognized from cognition itself. Will it be like that? The answer is, "If" it is said like that. "That" refers to change.
