What is stated is: The dharma called "thing," the meaning of its own nature, and the two, otherness and non-otherness, that are different from that dharma, and the relationship between the dharma and otherness and non-otherness, thus, these three are realized by knowledge with or without discrimination. How are these three realized by their own nature? Because the distinctions are not mixed with the distinguished. If one doubts, saying, it is not realized as its own nature, but rather as mixed. Then, that is the meaning of "if." The answer is "if it is so," if one perceives the unmixed as mixed, then it will be completely confused, and there will be no realization of grasping the self-nature of the distinction. If someone thinks like that, then it is said, "if it is so," if it becomes confused, then the meaning that is the characteristic of distinction will disappear, and it will not become a term for existence. If someone asks, then what is the meaning of sound? The answer is "ignorance," only the image of discrimination, it will become the meaning of sounds such as trees. Or, are the distinctions only mixed? The answer is, "if it is so," if it becomes non-other, then the meaning of words such as trees, the part that is the distinction, will disappear, and it will not exist. If it is so, then the object with distinction will also disappear, because there is no non-existent thing, so the distinguished things such as fire and water are different. Therefore, the characteristic of otherness and non-otherness expressed by words such as trees is unreasonable. Furthermore, the thing that is the characteristic of a tree, previously mixed with things such as pots, due to the distinction of otherness and non-otherness, is different from pots etc. that have other distinctions, and is non-other from the clarity of smoke etc., then, when the dharma with distinction returns from other dharmas, how does it return through the power of distinction, and for its own clarity it follows, just as distinction also returns through the power of other distinctions, or only through its own nature? If it returns through the power of other distinctions, then at that time the distinction

Because it is for that reason, those differences appear without end. Therefore, the statement for the second case is: it is also called having differences. If the difference is only different in itself, and having differences is distinguished from other things with differences by the difference, then how does recognizing the difference become meaningless? Therefore, it is called "from the difference." If, from its own nature, the difference is different from the thing with differences, then at that time, it should only be extracted from it, and the word "that itself" should be added. For observation, also— The word "also" includes the difference. Relative to the difference, it is not only the only difference, but also relative to other things with differences. Relative to the difference, what is the difference in its own nature, and what is the difference relative to the thing with differences, if it is said that this is different from the former, then the answer is "no." "Also in other differences" means that it is observed relative to other things with differences. In order to eliminate the doubt that there are also differences in different things, it is called "also from this difference," meaning that it is also different from other things with differences, because such a thought will arise, so it is necessary to recognize the difference of those things that become different. If it is said that recognizing the difference, is it not only stating the ultimate meaning? And how can one ask through that observation? It is called "through valid cognition." Whatever is established by valid cognition, even if it is meaningless, cannot be considered an object to be discarded. If it is said that it is established by valid cognition, then at that time it should only be accepted, that is its meaning. If it is said, etc., this is the answer. If, in that way, different things are observed differently, then at that time, not only is it different from other things with differences, but it will also become different from the difference, because such a distinction will arise, so other differences should be acknowledged. Because other differences should also be acknowledged from the acknowledged difference, there is no end. Therefore, saying that from the difference, the thing with differences is distinguished from its own nature, this will become non-existent, what is said is "from its own nature." If it is said that the difference depends on other differences, then, if one thinks in one's heart that the difference in its own nature does not exist, and then says
