It means that things like cloth will be pervasive. Therefore, the non-thing that is different from the thing is only existence. Moreover, this is expressed by sound by means of indicating the thing. Therefore, it is refuted that the non-thing is the very nature of the thing, and that the determination of the thing is the determination of the non-thing. This is what is thought. The answer is "If so." If something is in the middle of two things, then the non-thing that exists in between should not be non-existent. Therefore, if the thing also exists in the non-thing, then, if it is only in the thing, and there is no other non-thing, then it will not exist in the non-thing, but will only exist depending on other non-things. Why? Because this will lead to pervasiveness. If the reason for refuting the first non-thing is not examined for the second non-thing, then the first thing will be pervaded by the self-nature of that thing. Therefore, if it exists in the first non-thing, then it will definitely exist between other non-things. If so, it will also exist in other non-things, ad infinitum. However, if it is thought that it exists in the thing and non-thing only by its own nature, then it is not infinite. That is the meaning. It means that it will exist in other non-things. If so, it will become infinite, which is what is said, "If it exists." The space that exists between the vase and the cloth is the basis of the vase. The non-thing that is different from that basis will disappear. For example, cloth refers to the cloth that exists between wood and vase. Stating the law of direction is "non-thing." "If" etc. are arguments. The so-called "self" refers to existing in that thing without relying on other non-things. Why? Because it has been said "non-thing," because "that" is the self-nature of non-thing. Thing

If one retreats from non-things, then one dwells in the midst of non-things. Retreating from non-things is not because one possesses other non-things, for that is the very nature of self-non-things. To establish this, an example is given, called 'La-cha.' That is, La-cha is also like that. Why is there no other existence? It is called 'self,' that is, there is only no other combiner. 'Like that' refers to the combiner itself. La-cha itself relies on fire to combine firewood, but does non-thing itself dwell in the midst of pervading things? For the first case of non-pervasion, it is said 'non-thing.' For the second case, it is said 'if.' 'Becoming meaningless' is because the non-pervasion of things accomplishes existence in the middle. If one dwells in the middle of non-things by one's own nature, then why does one not also dwell in the midst of non-things in the same way? Even so, speaking of the measure of non-things is meaningless. Further explaining the fault, it is 'what is non-thing?' If the thing itself is pervasive, then it is not only a fault, but if the non-thing is also pervasive, then at that time the three realms will be pervaded by non-thing itself, so that not even a trace of things will exist. If that does not exist, then who will dwell in whose center? The explanation of 'by the nature of non-thing' etc. is 'non-thing is.' Why? Because non-pervasion itself, meaning that non-pervasion itself becomes the fault of non-pervasion. If one explains 'thing' etc., it is 'non-pervasion itself.' 'That is' refers to non-mixing. 'If' refers to argument. If a thing makes pervasion non-pervasive, then at that time if one admits that things such as a vase are pervasive, they will mix. When? Before not mixing with non-things. If one thinks it is not like that, then it is said 'after,' how can a pervasive thing become other, that is, non-pervasive? Why? Because pervasion is. 'Before' refers to

Because there are no things, it starts from being unmixed. If it is said that there were no things before, then it simply does not exist, then the word "if" is the answer. The so-called "like that" is not mixed with the self-nature of others. The so-called "other" is because the self-nature of mixing is not seen. Things like bottles are neither universal nor non-universal. The so-called "without it" is without universality. Just like that, Bhartṛhari also said, "For things of expanded self-nature," meaning: For those who have completely transformed into the essence of sound, whatever is said that "a tree is different from a non-tree" is another special feature, a special feature that is mutually absent. The tree itself is universal, and birch and yellow rhododendron, etc., are not different. This statement is also another special feature, which is the universal special feature of the tree. Like this, the expansion of the characteristics of difference and non-difference is understanding. If the established tenet of "two," etc., is like this: For example, clothes understood in another way, because they have madder and other pigments, are understood to have color. Similarly, if the self-nature thing that has the nature of dharma is separated from the difference between difference and non-difference, and is only understood in another way, what would it be like? If it is separated from "two," that is, separated from difference and non-difference. At that time, because it has other, that is, it has the two differences of difference and non-difference, then whatever is understood as being separated from the difference between difference and non-difference, that is, the nature of dharma, that is, the self-nature, will be understood as saying "dependent on two," that is, dependent on difference and non-difference. This is also said based on other schools. Whatever is understood in another way cannot be transformed in another way because it has other, because having other does not do anything to it. If that is not understood in another way, then how can it be understood as relying on two because it has other? Therefore, it is said, "If it is not like that," that is, if there is no mere understanding. It means it will become like this.
