The spotted and other cows are cows, not the initial ones, etc. The characteristics of cows and horses, etc., that are manifested are also not different from each other, that is what is to be said. What kind of difference does it have? By its own nature, it is similar and dissimilar. If you think that the manifestor is the maker of the difference of all universals, then how can those also make a difference if they are not different from each other? If the manifested things are different by their own nature, then there will be no end. If they are different by their own nature, then all universals will also change in the same way. Therefore, what is the use of having the difference of manifestation? However, the manifested things are only by their own nature, that is, not by other natures. The answer is "then." "Universal acceptance," etc., is an argument. That "itself" means that its own nature is different. "Very" is the answer. If the manifested things are different by their own nature, then what is the use of universals? If it is thought that the difference of universals is the cause of the difference of manifested things, then that difference is also established in another way, so universals do not need to be examined. In this way, if there is no difference in nature, after saying that, in order to explain the latter half, in order to welcome the doubt of the answer of establishing the near placement is: However, the universal by its own nature, that is not from the difference of manifestation. If the difference of all universals is caused by the difference of manifestation, then in this case, if the near placement is going to be established, then, when the difference of universals is the maker of the difference of manifested things, how is the near placement established? "That also," etc., is giving the example itself. If it is recognized that white, etc., are different from cloths, etc., then in this case, if because of having other white qualities, it is recognized as "white cloth," then the situation is not like that, because cloths and white are recognized as its own nature. After refuting the example, the meaning is also refuted, because the reasoning is the same. "Only" means different from cloths, etc. That refers to the color of white, etc. "Self" means proving by the nature of cloths, etc. White, etc., is an explanation.

That which is called "earth" comes from substance. The way of expressing understanding is that which is called "self." Because it possesses whiteness, it is said, "The cloth is white." To this, the statement of refutation is, that which is called "that," that is, the whiteness of that color itself is dependent on substance. If it is refuted, how could it not change? "That" refers to color. What is called "what is it?" means that color has no inherent nature whatsoever. That which is called "then" is the answer. When substance is called white because it possesses whiteness, at that time, it can only be said, "What is the essence of the substance itself?" The doubt is, "It is substance," thus understanding is, "It is the self-nature of substance itself." That which is called "substance also," and so on, is the answer. That which is called "other than that" means other than those colors and shapes. "Becoming" means happiness. Having analyzed and acknowledged, it is said that there is no substance other than that. Now, refuting shape, that is, that which is called "shape also." That which is called "substance also" refers to that which becomes the basis of form, etc. If one thinks, "How will it appear?" that is, that which is called "like this." Then, if it is thought that the cognition of form, etc., which has the object of qualities, does not make substance the object, then it is said, "Only qualities." That which is called "if it is not like that" means that only qualities are the object. If one thinks, "If it changes like that," that is, that which is called "of touch." Because it is not cognition of only qualities. "In reality" refers to that which becomes the basis of form, etc. If one doubts, "How can there be no cognition?" it is said, "Because there is no cause," that is, that which is called "without memory," meaning that for a person who does not remember the object seen before, there is no cognition. Therefore, for one with limbs, how can cognition arise because there is no cause of the characteristic of memory that precedes cognition? Or, for form, etc., there is a different experience, because it exists, how can there be no cognition because there is no previous memory? That which is called "for a while." The consciousness of touch is also not related to appearing as a different experience from a vase, etc. If one asks, "Why does it not appear?" that is, that which is called "first."
