It is called "Separation from Having and Not Having." If the object to be known and the object that knows are related, then for the nature that is examined, there is no relationship, so they are not the object to be proven and the object that proves. This statement is called "Separation from Having and Not Having." What is said here refers to the established tenet. The many that are different from the uncreated and the permanent one are one with the nature of being created and the nature of impermanence, understood by the characteristic of the general characteristic. This indicates that the two general characteristics are pervasive. The so-called "therefore" means that it is because one nature is the object. If it is said that it is only indicated by knowledge, but not by direct perception, then where does this come from? It comes from all things. From what is it different? It is different from similar and dissimilar kinds. Therefore, the so-called "substance-going," that is, the nature of being created or the nature of cow following, can only be grasped from conceptual thought. If it is said that direct perception combined with conceptual thought can show the general characteristic of cow-ness, etc., but not by conceptual thought alone. If it is indicated in this approximate way, it will become non-existent, which is suspected. That is, "Direct perception with conceptual thought." "Following and holding" is the remaining part. If following is direct perception, then it is in the previous and subsequent differences, or in things that exist simultaneously. First of all, the first case is impossible, because for the general characteristic of cow-ness, etc., appearing in the previous and subsequent states, the function of direct perception is not applicable. The second case is also impossible, because for things that arise simultaneously, following is also not direct perception. For things that exist simultaneously, there is also no nature of following that can be known. For conceptual thought, even dirt and shadows, etc., appear. If there is a general characteristic that follows in the appearance, then in this case, when the first appearance is seen, even if it has become an object, it is not like that. Like this, any knower first knows the nature of one appearance.

The perceiver of what is seen follows that appearance. It does not appear as following the universal. Why is that? It is called all appearances. To address the doubt in order to avoid this fault is: it is called distance and so on. What is called appearance is all appearances. The answer is called appearance. If the appearance is not held as a part, then it will not become the holder of the universal that pervades the appearance. Because if the pervaded is not held, then in reality the pervader is also not held, that is the meaning. What is called "before" is to welcome the doubt. What is called "thus" is the nature of the universal. Therefore, when seeing an appearance that has not been seen before, it is not intended to follow, this is what is thought. What is called "that thing" is generated by holding the previous thing. What is called appearance is the previous appearance. What is called "other meaning" is the universal that is different from the previous appearance. What is called "that itself" refers to the previous appearance itself. What is called "seeing a meaning that has not been seen before" means that the cause of the seeing of a meaning that has not been seen before is accumulation. What is called "seeing the previous meaning" means that the seeing that exists in the previous meaning is, that is, it is born only from the power of the eyes and so on, but not from the power of accumulation. Similarly, the later seeing is also from that power itself. Accumulation is not the cause of remembering the unseen meaning, but only the seen meaning is the cause of remembering. This meaning is: consciousness is of two kinds, namely, with conceptualization and without conceptualization. Among them, accumulation becomes the cause of conceptualization, and it is also for the seen meaning, but not for the other unseen meaning. For the non-conceptual, it is impossible to become the cause of both seen and unseen, because it arises only from the power of the eyes and so on. Applying this to the context is: it is also called the universal. What is called "unseen" refers to when the first appearance is seen. What is called "remembering also" refers to when the second appearance is seen. The universal is not reversed from memory and seeing to become the object, so it is said, that is called before and after. For the previous meaning
