The power is special, and recognition is not a special recognition, because of saying so. That special recognition is also a nature of further augmentation, which has been explained before. The "that" refers to the doubt about the dharma to be proven, which is the doubt of the subject. Why cling to it? It is because of "that itself." Self-nature is not the dharma of self-nature, because dharma and subject rely on being different. If the word "side" is used to generalize, what will happen? If it says "suppose." The main thing is which parts are the same, and what is the commonality of those two parts is the object. Saying the opposite is "like that." "Therefore" refers to summarizing the close situation. Like we think, it shows that it is not pretending to be the sound of a side and being understood as something else. Then saying other faults is "another." What is the characteristic of allowing desire? It is "one's own." Even if the approximate examination is admitted, like we think, there is no fault, saying "or." What is that necessity? It is "approximate." If it is thought that others also have that necessity? It said "for you," because for reasonable people, etc., it is not like that directly stated necessity, because there is no admission. We are based on the meaningful approximate pretense to eliminate other arguments, that is the meaning. What must be grasped is what must be eliminated. "In fact" means abandoning. "However, if it is established, it is to be proven, it is excluded, and the characteristics of being able to establish, etc., are merely abandoned, then what is the use of grasping this?" It said "that is." "That meaning" refers to the meaning that has not been established. "Why?" From the power of stating the characteristic of being able to establish. "That" is for eliminating the meaning of being established. However, if it is shown that the unestablished itself is able to establish, it is to eliminate being the vow itself, so it must be grasped, so it is thought. "Reason, etc." is said like this. The characteristic of reason is that the establishment of what is to be proven is the reason. The word "etc." refers to the characteristic of the example, that the example that has the same dharma as what is to be proven is the example.

It is said thus. Because by the characteristics of those, it pervades reasons and so forth. The unestablished means of proof is only when there is no doubt about the absence of a means of proof. Therefore, in order to eliminate that the unestablished means of proof is the thesis, it is not necessary to definitely grasp it. In order to explain this commentary, welcoming the doubts of others is like thinking thus. How is that the nature of what is to be proven? It is said: By the means of proof. The "there" there is the unestablished nature of showing the means of proof itself. If you think: How does it pervade with the characteristics of reasons and so on? It is said: How? How Having abandoned showing the nature of the means of proof, in the same way, by the example of similar dharma, the thesis and the means of proof are reasons and so on, is the nature of the reason abandoned? It follows in this way. If you think: How is it abandoned? It is said: The thesis and the means of proof are and so on. The nature of the reason itself is that it is not the thesis. For what reason is it not like that? Therefore, if you first definitely grasp it, then stating the nature of the thesis is meaningless. Showing the unestablished means of proof and so on is because only the characteristics of reasons and so on cut off the nature of being the thesis. When the later definite grasping is spoken, therefore, showing that which is to be proven is from the words of the nature of the thesis, speaking that later definite grasping, it is understood that it has the result of pervading by force. That is also the later definite grasping. If it pervades, it is too much. From what does it arise? It is said: Like this. By other characteristics, it is by the characteristics of reasons and so on. Otherwise, if pervading by other characteristics also does not become the thesis, then at that time the later definite grasping is meaningless. Because there is nothing to be distinguished. Because the characteristics of reasons and so on pervade, there is no need for the means of proof. It is said like this, and if it is like that, saying that the example and the reason are unestablished, then it becomes too much of a thesis. It is said like this and so on, arguing against thinking of contradiction, if

I myself said so. When those who assert tenets state faults by saying "it becomes a fallacy," and others, such as the Samkhyas, respond by saying that it is pervaded by the characteristics of reasons, etc., then again, those who assert tenets respond with things like "because of the nature that was not previously established." It should be added that "this is how it is thought." Similarly, for things like "in the same way," it should also be added that "in the same way, another response is stated." Therefore, "because reasons, etc., are pervaded by characteristics" is irrelevant, that is its meaning. "By mutual contradiction" means by scriptures that mutually harm. Whatever mutual contradictions there are in your scriptures, that is what causes us to be said to have faults. If you accept that showing what is to be proven is the thesis, then you must also accept that the unestablished means of proof is also the thesis. However, if you accept the later ascertainment, then at that time, it becomes accepting that the ascertainment is meaningless, because the unestablished means of proof, etc., are also pervaded by reasons, etc., which is an unwanted direct contradiction. This reason is not for Buddhists to establish their own desired meaning. "Is it like that?" means is what was later ascertained like that? "Just the thesis" means that the unestablished means of proof, etc., are also. Eliminating what is not the thesis, and making it just the thesis, that is its meaning. "Explanation" refers to Master Dignāga. Others say, "all reasons are impermanent, therefore" and the thesis is "sound is permanent," these two are contradictory, and when it becomes a harm, saying that this is a fault of the thesis, is what coarse people, etc., say, which is not reasonable. This is not a fault of the thesis, that is its meaning. Why? Because, "that is" means contradiction. It is stated in the example of dissimilar dharma. What is intended to be stated here is "sound is permanent, because everything is impermanent," it should be "sound is permanent, because it is not everything," after stating that there is nothing to be proven, the absence of the means of proof is what is to be proven, whatever is impermanent is everything.
