That which the ancients said, "Saying 'it is not a cow, it is a yak,' one understands that a yak is like a cow," is also refuted by this. If, because there is no similarity, the perception of similarity is without basis, how do you think that inference is a valid cognition with similarity as its object? It is said, "For the conceptualization of inference." Determining the similarity not seen by sense consciousness, or the similarity with its particularity, inference is not a valid cognition, but rather, it is said that one knows it to be similar by superimposing the very nature seen in the example. For example, the fire at the foot of the mountain is not a conceptualization of its own characteristics, nor is it a conceptualization. It is not that it has not been seen in the example, so it is said to be similar to that. Even if there is no other similarity, but because it is the opposite of that, this is merely a term of similarity. Inference is a valid cognition with an object, because it is not deceptive from manifest thought. The measurement of others is with the object of similarity that has become an object, and having understood that, because it is with the object of the relationship between name and named, it will become a fault. If that is the case, that is the view of others. What was seen at the time of indication is remembered from sound at another time. The word "etc." means that having seen it elsewhere, eating something on a certain night, it is remembered by understanding the meaning. "To this," this is the answer. "Combs, etc., are meaningless," the meaning of this statement is that all such situations have been explained. Similarly, elsewhere as well, wherever it is believed to be deceptive, or what needs to be proven, it cannot be determined to occur in that way, such as the knowledge generated by images and seemingly valid reasons, etc. "Because it is the object and non-object of sound," the explanation of this statement is etc. If the meaning of etc. is this, then here, the generality that has become the object of valid cognition should be examined, therefore, because it is the cause of the knowledge with that object, it will also become a valid cognition. If it is said that knowledge itself is considered valid cognition, then there is no attachment to this.

All knowledge arising from sound will change. So, will unwanted things not be reversed? The thought in response is that if one speaks in that way relying solely on the power of sound, then at that time it does not have the object of a generality. Because the characteristic of a generality is only its own characteristic. What is to be expressed by mere sound is uncertain, so how could it be its own characteristic? If it is thought that sounds are not considered to be objects of generality, it is not so, because it is considered to have elimination as its object. By the power of appearing to follow, it is merely designated as a generality. This means that even if all eliminations are named as generalities, then to what is one particularly attached? One is attached to real things, and it is there that it is established as a generality. Otherwise, it should be understood that it is merely a name. Therefore, sound itself, which is the nature of inference for the sake of others, is reasonably a valid cognition because it is the object of a generality. If sound is not an approximate valid cognition, and if it is the object of a generality, then would it become a direct valid cognition? It is not so, because for inference for the sake of others, it is approximated to the object of a generality. The object of a generality is only the inference generated by the three aspects of a stable sound. If sound is not the object to be established, then it is not the object of a generality. The establisher is the object of the three aspects, so it will become the object of a generality, because what it is to show is that, right? It is not so, because it is also merely shown by it. The certainty of the three aspects comes only from the three valid cognitions. So, what is the sound that has the body of a generality? It itself is not contradictory. For that very reason, sound is not a valid cognition at all. When a valid cognition shows a non-deceptive object, just as sound relies on others, thereby drawing out inference for the sake of others, and inference for the sake of others, one is particularly attached to the non-deceptive nature of speech that shows moments and so on, so too is the term 'valid cognition.' What is the characteristic of a generality? It is that.
