Then, what will be the result? If it is said that, regarding what is said, if understanding something similar to dappled things as yellow, etc., is a general cognition, then, at that time, one's own characteristic will also become general, and the general will also become one's own characteristic. Therefore, two valid cognitions cannot be established on the same object, it will become uncertain, and even so, since two can be established on the same object, then the third will also be established in the same way. If the self-nature of the object is not confused, then this fault will not occur, because it is certain that two valid cognitions are established on two objects. This is also unreasonable, it is said. If there is a similar cognition of its object, it will also become another valid cognition, because it is not produced from a sign. The so-called "similarly" refers to a similar statement, and the related cognition is a proximate measure, which refers to the proximate measure of the knowing ones. For example, saying "the yak is similar to the cow," this is using approximate language to generate action, that is, from seeing the yak, when slaughtering it, uttering the sound of the yak, thinking "this is it," this cognition is a proximate measure. If its object is also a universal characteristic, then the proximate measure is also the object of inference, and for things that are separated from the collection of birth, it will become another valid cognition, it is said. Regarding the meaning of the dispute, if the similar self-nature is recognized, then that is the universal characteristic, it is said, it is not definitely clung to, it is said, that is "the self-nature of similarity." The so-called "self-nature of similarity" refers to not being a special self-nature. Here, the so-called "self-nature" also has special cognition, therefore, there is no opportunity to become a universal characteristic. Then, will both self-natures become objects? Regarding this dispute, the measurable thing, therefore the sign of color cannot be recognized, for this situation, it should be abandoned. Then, why doesn't the commentary show the word "also"? That is merely the absence of similar cognition, however, following his intention, even if there are the self-natures of both, there is no opportunity to become any characteristic, it is said. This is someone else saying "if similar." The so-called "not" refers to recognizing the self-nature of similarity.

This is to prevent. Because the essence of similarity, which is different from the nature of what is present, cannot be understood, this is said to be the reason. So, the thought on the debate of "how" is this: The so-called "similarity" does not change from the general to other things, but many parts are also named "similarity" only to the general itself. Without the general, general wisdom and sound will not arise. Therefore, with the thought of "this is similar", one closely establishes one's own reason for similarity itself. Or, with the attachment of "this is similar", because one has previously experienced in the similarity of different functions, how can one say that one does not understand similarity? "Even if particularly attached," etc., the intention of establishing the doctrine is this: Even if one allows special attachment, even so, the Dharma nature of the thing called "similarity", what is desired, empty of color, shape, and letters, will not appear in the different root consciousness. Even if one does not see the difference, there is no chance to admit it. One's own self-nature thing itself is non-dual wisdom, which has special wisdom without the appearance of general and special, therefore, the so-called "general" other things do not exist. Let alone the root consciousness can grasp, even together with the special attachment to similarity, one cannot understand that similarity is different, this is its meaning. The explanation of this is "this is similar" and so on. If one says that hasn't it already been said that the special attachment itself is grasping similarity? To this, even for the four kinds of special attachment, there is no case of grasping similarity separately from the nature of things, so it is said that special attachment is not grasping similarity either. Therefore, there is no separate understanding, that is only one's own self-nature. In the explanation, "understanding" is used as the third case of the agent. The so-called "similarity" is empty of color, shape, and letters. Similarity is considered to be the nature of things, but for the root consciousness that grasps it, it will not appear, therefore, even if it is only the discrimination arising from habits, it will appear.
