It means it is a mistake. For generalities such as cows and horses, there is a recognition based on the reason of one generality. In the Commentary on Valid Cognition, it says, "Because it is the result of expression." Because this reason is simple, other reasons are stated, which is because it will perish when it is clear. How can the nature of clarity and aggregation exist when it perishes? Even if it exists, it would lead to the fault that clarity also exists. If you ask, how does it become without self-nature? The answer is: the thing itself. If you ask, what will it become from that? The answer is: it is universal. If you ask, why does it not exist? The answer is: of time. If you do not see it that way, why can't it exist that way? The answer is: seeing itself. If it says, "It does not exist," it means it is not seen. If you doubt, "Existence is other than seeing," the answer is "existence itself." If so, there is no limit, this is the answer: existence itself also. This is only said after admitting it, it is not your view, because it is said that "the three meanings of words exist, that is existence," so it is said: the generality is. Because it exists, it is because it is admitted to exist. If you think that "only existence by its own nature is existence," the answer is: that is, that which exists by its own nature. Therefore, it is because it is not seen. Also, because it is refuted by the fact that existence by its own nature is existence itself, it is said: of the donkey. To you, "also" is a question, it is also said to Buddhists. Because there is no cause, this is the answer. It is like this, if there is no cause, then the rabbit has no horns. At that time, the generality will also not exist. Why? Because it is also said to it, it is also said to the generality. If you doubt, "Without an object, consciousness will not arise," the answer is: the generality is. The rabbit's is the answer. If you doubt, "If you examine the rabbit's horns in detail, they do not exist," and thus say, "The generality will also become like that," the answer is: if you examine it carefully. If for the consciousness arising from sound.

Whatever appears is its generality. That is to say, what pervades and what contradicts, what is designated is also not a real thing, saying this is "other". Whatever appears through the power of symbols is not a real thing, for example, the generality of what is explained and so on. The generality of cows and so on also appears through the power of symbols. If it is thought that this is uncertain, because real things may also appear through the power of symbols, if this is doubted, then, the real thing itself does not depend on the power of symbols to appear is universal, if it contradicts this, it will not change, saying this is "as follows". At the appropriate time, showing what pervades and what contradicts itself, that is, not depending on symbols, there is no appearance like that, but it appears depending on it. If it is doubted how the knowledge that depends on symbols will only become without real things, in order to eliminate this doubt, it is said "the function of symbols". Because symbols are not used in that way, but only by assuming before and after. Therefore, the knowledge that depends on it is not only assuming that there is no real thing. Or, even if there is no assumption before and after, symbols will be used, therefore, the understanding that depends on it will also become a real thing, if this is doubted, it is said "as follows". If acting only by relying on closeness, then, at that time its ultimate result will follow in the era of terminology, therefore, meaning will not be understood from the sound. If it is thought that even if the symbol does not follow, meaning can be understood only through the power of the sound, that is "the power of the sound itself". The answer is that without the following of the symbol, it is impossible to understand meaning from the sound, that is "if". If it is doubted how it is known that the knowledge of generality depends on symbols, that is "without symbols". Just like "བྷིད་རྡི་" (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Chinese literal meaning) and "ཨཱད་ཨཻ་" (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Chinese literal meaning), it is also the symbol of "this is a cow". Because this is the meaning expressed by the sound of a cow, therefore, without symbols, the sound itself is not an expression anywhere, that is the meaning. It is explained that it is only a detailed explanation of the Pramanavarttika, "seeing two things".
