So! If it is thought, how can they be self-cognizance when there is no other object of perception? When there is no grasping of the object of perception, what appears manifestly is called self-cognizance. If that is the case, then attachment and so on are also manifest, so why are these not self-cognizance? This refers to happiness and attachment, etc. Through the consciousness existing in the cause of others, happiness and so on can also be recognized as the object to be taken; through the consciousness existing in one's own continuum, it is also the same, so there is no difference. An example of this is the fire of others. How can the fire of others become cool? If it is said, how about the sandalwood of others for a virtuous mind? This has already been explained. Here, let's say that for a non-virtuous mind, the happiness produced by the sandalwood of others, how is this understood? To this, the other party replies, for a non-virtuous mind, one's own happiness is generated by relying on the sandalwood of others. Similarly, when recognizing the happiness of others, when happiness is recognized, that happiness is only generated by oneself, not the happiness of others. To this, someone from a school of thought says: When the happiness of others is felt, but one's own happiness is not generated, how can that person who recognizes the happiness of others be in an intermediate state? When debating like this, the other party says: Happiness comes from one's own happiness, not from the happiness of others. Therefore, when recognizing the happiness of others, it is because one's own happiness is generated, so one feels happy at that time. To this, it is answered: It is not like that. One's own happiness and the happiness of others are the same. Therefore, their nature is not different. Because both are of a satisfying nature. Therefore, just as one's own happiness can bring happiness, the happiness of others can also bring happiness. If it is said that because the happiness of others is distant, one will not feel happy because of it. To this, it is answered: If one recognizes its nature, that is, if one recognizes the nature of happiness, there will be no distance. If one obtains from the happiness of others

Because cognitive thinking that exists by relying on the cognition of others is obtained, it will not become happiness. To say about this, then one's own self touches happiness, and in touching, it will also become self-awareness. If it is not like that, then the meaning of the word 'touch' is not reasonable. To establish this, is one's own happiness touched by the entirety of oneself or by one part? For the time being, what is said about the first case is called 'oneself'. What is said about the second case is, if it is not like that, then it will not follow. Happiness and cognition are inseparable, it will not become like that. Here, if asked what the difference is, the answer is 'from that', that is, from happiness. There, it is happiness. Whatever that is, that is the wisdom of happiness, it is what cognizes happiness, that is the meaning. That wisdom is not born from an object. If asked how, it is said 'following recollection', because it is impossible to directly realize the happiness of others. Called its nature, it is what is the direct perception that appears as happiness. This shows that it is directly born from happiness. Whatever is directly born from an object is the direct perception of happiness, not something else, and from that kind of direct perception one can cognize one's own happiness. Explaining the latter half, it is called 'other'. Called 'commitment', it is from the commitment of others themselves. Just as eyes and so on generate direct perception, it is the same because seeing signs is also like that, so eyes and so on and seeing signs are the same. In both cases, 'born from that' and 'appearing as that', explaining the first half is called 'by commitment', that is, it is cognized by its very nature, that is, by such a characteristic. This is what is being explained. Called 'born from a sign', it is to prevent direct birth from the happiness of others that has become an object. To say about this, if it is like that. Called 'general', it is because it is happiness itself. Its meaning is emptiness of the form of an object. If it is said to be recollection, then how is it self-awareness? It is said 'if'. Called 'other', it is towards the form that appears as unclear. To that, it is unclear.
