If it is said that it is seen at that time, then the prevention of this is the meaning of "then." If it is thought that the external object is truly existent, and not merely falsely imputed, then it has already been said at the time of inference. The so-called "other" is from the arising of smoke. The meaning is also other, because it is momentary. That which gives rise to smoke does not exist at that time. That is also in relation to external objects. Just as the two moons I see, that is this, like this, even in real difference, names are established, similarly, the appearance of fire that I infer from smoke, that is this, like this, the meaning of "in another," even if it is the same appearance, names are established. The so-called "from after" refers to the time of inference. The so-called "realization" refers to realization at all times. Even so, at the time of inference, if there was no prior realization, then all aspects of all things would be realized. Therefore, how can inference arise even a little? Because without realization, no nature exists. The so-called "prior" refers to the time of inference itself. If it is thought that only fire is realized as the nature of another, therefore it exists, then it is said "by the nature of another." The so-called "that" refers to the mind of another. Here, what is said by another is "not that." If at the time of inference, the object does not exist, but it exists immediately upon arising, then at that time, when it arises later, it will be truly explained, if it existed previously in a moment, and was not produced by another, how could it not be? The answer to this is "without that." When it becomes without that, how can the fire that did not exist before become the annihilation of without that? Therefore, how can a thing become the annihilation of non-existence, similarly, the thing will also change, what fault is there? That is the meaning. When it is asked how annihilation exists, this is merely the words of the debater, how can the fire that existed before exist when it becomes the fire of annihilation? That is the meaning. To this, the proponent of established tenets says, "If." Merely the previous non-existence appears as fire.

That appearance arises, and the cause of its continuous existence is habit. To this, the opponent says, "Even if it is so." The answer is, "In reality, it is also so." The immediately seen fire that has entered cannot be understood to be the same as the unseen fire that exists at the time of inference. "Dwelling therein" means like dwelling in an appearance of a different kind. "These two" refers to those who speak of external objects and consciousness. Saying that one understands the habit of fire when fire appears, and also saying smoke when smoke appears, refers to smoke. "This" refers to how the external object is not the cause, because that has already been explained. "That itself" refers to the appearance of smoke itself being smoke. "If it is so and that itself" refers to what was previously said as cause and effect. Its function is that after the habit of smoke is awakened, consistent. "Smoke also" means that smoke is also consistent with the awakening of the habit of appearing fire. Even if smoke itself is the cause, how can one definitely know that the result is fire from that smoke? "That habit also" refers to causing the appearance of fire. "It is valid cognition" refers to the appearance of smoke. "That smoke depends on a collection" means that smoke and the fire that appears together are a collection, therefore it can be obtained. The hidden and the unhidden are the same, therefore, whoever generates smoke obtains that, and it is not dependent on a collection, this is what is thought. "The power of habit" refers to the power of special attachment. Not deceiving and seeing external objects do not exist. It is not possible even in dreams, this is the worldly way of speaking. "Like this," etc., means that the object-possessor itself, which will arise in all times, is not valid cognition, and that it is not possible on external objects, this is what is to be explained. "Likewise" means in that way. "If it is not so" means if one cannot understand the thing that will arise. If one enters by particularly clinging to what will arise and what is now as one self, then how can it become the object-possessor of what will arise? Because the present is also clung to.
