How would such a form be? If one wonders how to show the difference of 'blue consciousness,' it is called the blue and so forth itself. 'Following its aspect' means following the aspect of blue itself. 'The subsequent consciousness' means that which arises immediately after the blue consciousness, distinguishing it as 'this is the aspect of blue.' 'Difference' means adorned by the fabrication of distinction. In this way, relying on what has been established by valid cognition, one can refute other things that have not been established by valid cognition. What connects these two is the word 'if.' If one thinks that one should rely on what has been established by valid cognition to refute consciousness itself, then to this (the answer is) 'for the moment.' If (someone) says that even a mind-only proponent should acknowledge external objects, otherwise consciousness itself cannot be established. (Answer:) 'One who possesses consciousness' means, that is, one who proclaims consciousness. If one thinks that just as one acknowledges that consciousness is established by self-awareness and completely abandons external objects, external objects should also be acknowledged as established by self-awareness and consciousness should be abandoned. (Answer:) If one says that there is no consciousness different from the aspect of blue and so forth, then how can it exist? To this, what is said is 'how momentary.' Other thoughts are also like that, they are the aspects of blue and so forth. Therefore, ('therefore' means) by other consciousness. If one asks: how can one ascertain by valid cognition that the previous blue consciousness abides in the thought? To this, what is said is 'suchness.' Even if understood in this way, if one does not speak in this way, then at that time everything will be destroyed, that is its meaning. If one asks: then, how is it that the aspect of the object also appears in it like this? To this, it is said 'consciousness is.' What is related to it is related to the object. Therefore, 'because' means the object of consciousness. And 'other' means without external objects. Thus, it is together with external objects. If one thinks that even so, although one will remember the different external objects themselves, how can one understand remembering as the nature of the previous consciousness? To this (the answer) is said, for the external object, therefore, whatever understands it as its own aspect is called 'power,' and that is also mistaken and changing.

Thus, it will be understood as the very aspect of things. The term "two" also refers to appearance and attention. Because there is such a fault, it is not acceptable. However, since the appearance of the formless cannot be grasped, the appearance will become form. If one thinks that consciousness can also grasp other things, then why is it said to be form? Even if it is understood in this way by the fruit itself, the term "also" means that since consciousness is the fruit, remembering it also means remembering the cause, which is form, this is an admission. Furthermore, how can this certainty not change here? The term "within that" means this intention. The term "first" means grasping the object. The term "not the nature of both" means that clarifying this is merely the aspect of grasping. The term "second also" also refers to knowing by the object, and also refers to the one who grasps. The term "with a mind that definitely grasps" clarifies that the term "second" refers to the second consciousness, with definite grasping, that is, the mind with the characteristic of memory. The term "that also" means the second also. The term "in the very same nature" means that expressing the object is the aspect of grasping. The term "second" means the memory of knowing the object. The term "previous mind" means grasping the object. The previous consciousness connects with the aspect of the object, that is the meaning. Stating this in reverse is the term "if". If the one who knows by the object does not become the aspect of the object, then at that time only the previous mind will be the object of focus. There is also doubt about grasping, because if one does not remember the object grasped, then it is not the one who grasps. Explaining the latter half is the term "for the sake of grasping". The term "that itself" means that being separate from the action of the object grasped is the very nature of the one who grasps. The term "when the object grasped is near, it becomes other" means that it has not become the nature of having the action of the object grasped. Therefore, remembering the other as the nature of not being the one who grasps is the very state of becoming like that, that is, how can remembering as the nature of not being the one who grasps be the one who grasps? The term "that is appearance itself" means that the object grasped is appearance itself.
