The very nature of non-obscurity. "That and," which means that non-obscurity is no different. It means that there is no realization that surpasses the previous realization. If there is no further investigation, how can it be complete, since it grasps what is to be grasped? If so, this is how it is, which is the reason to be explained. "That of," which is the very nature of what was previously realized. "And that," which is the former vision. Further investigation is like saying, "This smoke cannot arise without fire." To the one who seeks to see, it will not show that there is fire. "Not other," which means that if one does not realize the appearance, then one is not a seeker of meaning. It is like superimposing on the realm of the mirage of water seen in the past. The fire that dwells where the fire of the past is superimposed is hidden, and this is not a denial. Since the fire on the mountain is not realized, how can one know that it exists? "That itself," which is the very nature of the fire that is conjectured. How can there be obscurity in the realization of one's own nature? It is said, "By another." When another realizes it, at that time, he only realizes his own nature, so this fire is hidden to another person. Because he has not realized his own nature. Not realized, how can it be? If it is said like this, it is irrelevant, because another has realized his own nature. To this it is said, "That itself." When another realizes it, at that time, the fire is only non-obscured, and that is all, and there is no confusion in that non-obscured nature. "By another," etc., is another refutation. Showing the reversal is "therefore," such as a vase, etc. How does it change, which means that it is not the meaning of realizing that there is another meaning different from consciousness. "If so," is a doubt. The answer is "eye." Like the appearance of hair, etc., which means that even though it is meaningless, it is only the consciousness that wants to be confused by the eye, etc.

Just as hairs appear in the eyes with cataracts, so too are pillars and the like. When asked by someone of a philosophical school, 'From where does decay arise?' it is said, 'From the sound of the other.' The response to this is: 'Those cognitions that consider the appearance of blue and so forth to be without error should also examine whether the eyes and so forth are impaired.' Blue and so forth are of one nature. How is this clarified? If the eyes are changed, will they become blue and so forth like hairs? If one posits that the consciousness of the eye is external, why not posit that blue and so forth exist? What difference is there between blue and so forth and the eye in terms of externality? How is this doctrine established? Blue and so forth, other than the eye, are the cause. 'Cognition' means the certainty of experience. There is certainty of the object and certainty of the aspect. Because of the certainty of experience, external objects are established. If this is the case, the result is reversed. When the result is reversed, it is best to examine the eye itself for the sake of establishment. If it is said that the eyes and so forth are also asserted by those who speak of consciousness-only, then how is that understood? It is said, 'It is also.' Then what do those who speak of consciousness-only assert? It is said, 'That which is immediately preceding.' 'That' refers to the material body. If the body appears, will blue and so forth appear? It is said, 'Even now.' The appearance of the body and so forth is another refutation. If there are no external objects, how can the object and so forth be determined solely by the difference of the immediately preceding condition? It is said, 'Like this.' Because the awakening is definite, it is not from the determination of the object. Even if that which awakens does not exist, just as various conceptualizations are definitely seen, similarly, just as there is no object or awakening, the appearance of blue and so forth is connected with certainty. 'Those' refers to desire and so forth. 'Because of delusion' means that it arises even without an object. If there is no object in that way, then for the time being, awakening should be acknowledged, and because that is external, it will definitely appear in the external.

If asked, how does it arise? The answer is: it is the external object itself. The example for this is the word "for example." The meaning of "in order to see everything" is that in order to see everything in other lives, everything will appear in the dream state. "At that time" means that in the dream state, because there is no seeing of other lives. "There" refers to the object. "At that time" refers to that time. If it is thought that it is determined from the previous meaning, then now the appearance will temporarily become empty of meaning. Therefore, if the previous appearance itself cannot be determined, then what is the use of the appearance? There, it refers to the object. Or if it is thought that the previous appearance also appears now, the answer is: it is the appearance. If asked, "There" refers to the statement about the external object. If the established school says "it possesses there," if asked from what is it known, the answer is: it is "non-deceptive." The meaning of "non-deceptive" is that the answer is that the appearance of the characteristic of non-deception, if transmitted, then the meaning of reason will not be established. Again, if asked, why does it not follow? The answer is: because it is such a state. Or if asked, if doing things has no object in the awakened state, how can it be meaningless? The answer is: for doing things. Therefore, apart from the two forms of blue and awareness, there is no other object consciousness. Then, what is the result? The answer is: it is the two forms. Whatever is desired or undesired, but has not been established as its entity, is called that. Consciousness is thus experiencing wanting and not wanting. Or if it is thought that, for the Consciousness-only school, it is also object consciousness itself that is the result, and not self-consciousness. The answer is, when saying that object consciousness is the result, it is to explain that only self-consciousness. At that time, it is "the grasped." "That itself" refers to the form of the grasped itself. Even if it is an undesired consciousness, for the consciousness of the desired object, or even just the consciousness of the desired form, if not wanting is object consciousness, then at that time it will become object consciousness due to the actual entry. If it is not so, then when the consciousness of the desired form,
